Too Comicy...........

I mean film was ok , but did anyone less feel like it was like just watching a comic book be played out. The art direction and stuff was cool.........sort reminds me of sin city a bit but more full of despair. The casting though was horrible and the actors just seemed like over the top cheesy villians. The one liners were okay but the main dude I just couldn't stand , why the **** does The Crow have a french accent? His delivery of the lines sucked.

Now let me say this, I haven't seen The first movie or read the comics but I know this an adaption. It's just ....it didn't feel like a movie and was wondering if all the other movies felt like this.

Vincent Perez is french...

reply

yeah....I kinda a feeling that was it. But why pick a french actor to play a role like that? I mean everyone else speaks English and he lives in La, why does the main role have the french accent........pick a different actor

reply

Vincent was chosen because he was perfect for the role. Do you have something against people with a different nationality other than your own? People DO move to the U.S. from other places in the world. It's nothing new.

"Everyone else speaks english". LOL, Vincent spoke english in the movie, too! I guess you have something against Thuy Trang ("Vietnamese, Chinese and French descent") and Ian Dury (he's English) also. But hey surprise, they also spoke english!

"why the **** does The Crow have a french accent?"

Simple. Because not everyone is effing American!

Judah: I've drunk the blood of the crow and taken your power!

Ashe:...merde!

reply

LOL@ the responses.........Looo I'm just saying the location was LA so wtf, I mean if they setting was Paris or something I'd expect most people to have a french accent............Lots of actors drop their accents to play roles in films like the chick from the Titanic for example. And secondly I'm not an American, I 'm Canadian and wasn't trying to be pompous, it just seemed out of place within the context of the story

So a film based on a comic was too "comicy"?

I actually think it would have been far cooler if he only spoke French in the movie. Kind of would have given him a more mysterious feeling for those who don't speak French.

First of all, I'd like to clear something out -- unlike the first installment, this film was not based on any pre-existing Crow material. It was made from an original screenplay by David Goyer.

I do see your point though. They were definitely going for an "otherworldly" feel. It does feel more like a comic book than a film.

There are comics out there for it though, i saw them on ebay recently. Were they done afterwards?

I believe you're talking about the novelization for the film. I don't remember any Crow comic/book based on City of Angels other than that.

reply

no i wasn't. i know the difference between a novelization and comics. heres a link to apparently the first of a set of three comics titles City Of Angels.

I just investigated and it seems the three issue comic series was made after the film. It's based on the extended cut of the film.

I like the comic book-like tone of City of Angels. It's very fitting. And I actually thought Vincent's accent added to the character myself.

I felt the comic book style of the movie was well done. I also think the actor giving the Crow a French accent was also good. The myth of The Crows isn't just for people from one group or race, The Crow is for any soul that has been wronged so greatly that they need to come back to the world to avenge their wrong.

What I kind of had a problem with is that it seemed he needed Sarah to hold his hand through the movie. At some point I thought they should just give her the power and she could seek out vengeance. But overall the feel of the movie was good.

yo yo wassup man.

i agree with OP (before he got to that french bullsnot). The crow was a white guy thats good enough for me.

but
yes the villains was cheesy. It was the undoing of the movie. It needed a dose of realism to back up the art and ambience of the film.

reply

Well Ashe was supposed to be played by Jon Bon Jovi originally, but studio wanted a better actor and choose Vincent Perez.
