I don't get the ending?

Ok I watched this movie and it was ok, I mostly just liked the interaction between ashe and sarah.
But at the very end of the movie I was confused.
I know that sarah died and all but then ashe rides off on his motorcycle and then there is a scene of him going off with his dead son.

So what happened? Are they back together again? Or was he still gonna stay in the living world or something?

If someone could explain the ending then that would be great.

The simple explanation is that the ending you are referring to is a fake and it isn't the ending at all. Most of that footage is meant to appear early in the film. The real ending does not appear in the Miraamax cut (the version you watched).

Sure, actually I can provide you with all the information of the other cut. But before the ending is potentially spoiled for you I should mention that the other version [fan edit dvd] is available for download *Free* online. It is a reassembly of the true director's cut. There are far too many cuts and differences to list here. Even if you don't want to download the movie, all of the details are there about the film if you want to read about them.

That's so sad, I wish that Ashe and Sarah could've been together.
But he's stuck on earth, that's so depressing :(

You're welcome! While I do agree it is a downer ending, I feel it should never have been changed like it was. Miramax is full of weirdos.

The final scene with Danny and him was him remembering good times. It wasnt real. Because Ashe stayed behind to save Sara (which resulted in her death) he has forsaken his chance to return to Heaven and must remain on earth as part of the restless spirits.

It would've been nice to have Vincent Perez return for a sequel had they kept the original ending. How do the studio people get jobs? It looks like they get dumber every year.
