This Is My Favorite Of The Crow Sequels

Salvation and Wicked Prayer were just plain bad.

I know lot of Crow fans hate the sequels but City of Angels really isn't that bad of a movie; or at least not as horrible as the later two.

Mine too

I agree this is better then Salvation and Wicked Prayer.

I haven't seen the other movies to say how they compare, but I did really like this sequel. I was thinking that I needed to buy the DVD of it to go with my Crow (first movie) DVD.

Meh, I have to disagree, at least Salvation was coherent, and it worked, but wicked prayer MIGHT have been alright if they hadnt gone for the whole Antichrist angle

I think City of Angels was the best because it was actually darker and more disturbing/perverted (imo) than the original. The expansion of the world that they created in the original was great in this one. I thought Vincent Perez gave a great performance as The Crow, especially the scenes when he's coming in terms with what happened to him and his son. The soundtrack is awesome and the cinematography is spot on. Overall, they really nailed the 'atmosphere' that was present in the original. I'm still waiting for the extended cut though :P

How was it darker? Either Literally OR figuratively? It really wasn't any darker, if nothing else it felt lighter, I just didn't feel any of the weight of the first film, and as Ive said in other boards, Vincents performance was too erratic for me, not to mention the way his accent kept flip flopping, and the villians where SHALLOW with a capital S.

Darker, as in the atmosphere of the movie. Pretty much, it felt like the city was dying right in front of you. The city just seems to be more of a ghost town, especially the scene where Sarah sits down with the little homeless girl. Considering the drug content/use, the whole dominatrix element, the strung out bad guys, and Judah, I'd say it was a pretty dark/bleak movie. I love Michael Wincott in 'The Crow' and thought he had charisma. But I thought the paper thin character of Judah fit the film nicely(except for his final scene).

reply

But that was part of the problem, he was too thin, the film had none of the weight it should have, and in reality, the first crow had all of that, the only difference is that there was a police presence in the first film.

I really enjoyed this sequel. Yes, it didn't have the magic of the first one, but it was still a good story. I think my favorite scene is when Ash does a graceful sawn-dive into the water to retreave the body of his son, with the scroe from the original movie playing in the background. It's a beautiful scene.

Everyone's entitled to one good scare...

I still preferred Salvation, which still wasn't a perfect film, but it was coherent, and felt much closer to the first film, while taking the concept in a new direction.
