Life is just a dream on the way to death.
The released "director's cut" version was called such without approval of the director (how ironic). He & his editing team were actually kicked out of the editing process. A nearly-finished rough cut was completed but when the studio saw it they rejected it. He was trying to to make something artistic and truly different (as he always does), but the studio thought different and wanted a quick turd and threw the movie togther with no meaning, cutting over an hour of footage for no good reason other than to make a few bucks. It's a typical fake Hollywood money-making cut slapped together by Miramax.
Second coming is an attempted correction of the above and is a 112 minute full recut of the film a lot closer to a real director's cut, what the director intended, with a different ending. All the original actors are in it.

Sigh.
What can't I find this version of the film anywhere?

would you mind sending me that info as well? I've been looking everywhere for this. I just started reading the official movie novelization this weekend to get an idea of what the original cut might have been like.

Here's a petition for releasing the uncut/pay-per-view version (and no, I myself didn't create the petition, I just really want to see this version of the film…).

For the time being, I think that hassling Netflix/Miramax to license it to Streaming may be our best bet (hell, someone could always find a way to record, save & share it from that…):
