Denzel crying

the scene towards the end when Denzel's character has to explain his actions to the parents of the soldier he killed had the potential to be the best in the movie. in the scene, he is extremely remorseful and emotional and is reduced to tears as he explains the truth. the camera keeps cutting away from him to the reactions of the parents. but the scene isn't about the parents. they provided very little to what was happening here. i think the director/editor should have used a long shot and kept the majority of the scene focused on Denzel's face as he explained himself and begged for forgiveness. it was a very powerful performance and the scene suffers from the cutaway shots of the parents' bland expressions. i think it's one of Denzel's best scenes ever in spite of this.

I agree that it is one of Denzel's greatest acting performances as well. But I don't think the director did a disservice to the scene. Remember, it's is difficult to cry on demand. Even for a great actor. The cutaways were probably necessary because of that fact. Great scene!!
