Views on the Death Penalty

Are posters here for or against it? Both sides are welcome. Personally, I would not go for it.

I'm all for getting those people out of society, but I don't condone the death penalty. They're killing people for killing people.

against it.

it gives off the idea that the murderers life is osme how equal to the life they took.

killing them sure as hell won't bring the victim back to live, and I hardly think the victims family would consider everything even.

I do believe people like Charles Mansion and other serial Killers should be put to death. I believe punishment should be fair.

Someone who committed murder doesn't deserve to live. He/she especially doesn't deserve to live in a place where he/she doesn't have to pay for meals and nowadays can take art classes.

If you don't like it, move to a state that doesn't execute people.

Otherwise it's just malfeasance for malfeasance's sake.

I am against it. What happened to "two wrong don't make it right?" What about the 8th amendment in our constitution? Our country is hypocritical.

Innocent people have been blamed for a crime they didn't commit and been put to death for it. Only 126 have been freed from death row since 1976 because they were proven innocent. So who knows how many other criminals on death row are actually innocent.

Killers should get life without parole. Have them suffer in prison. It's no fun being in there. Sure they may get free health care, food, internet, cable, and of course a roof over their head. But I heard their food is terrible, you get beaten in prison by other inmates, some prison guards do the abuse too. Lot of them get away with it. I watched a documentary about it so that's how I know.

You don't get to leave the ground, you stay there. Nope no shopping, no vacations, you can't leave unless you are going to court for trial. Some get to leave when they are doing work. I once saw inmates working downtown in one of the flower beds weeding. They had a guard there with a gun watching them.
You do not get freedom in prison. I doubt you have unlimited access to the internet. You don't get to see your family any time. They have to come and see you during visiting hours.

So people who think being in prison is fun are naive. I for one wouldn't want to be in prison. I like my freedom. I like all my stuff. I doubt they let me take my videogames to prison in my cell and my TV set. DVDs too.

So first you say two wrongs don't make a right, then you say killers should suffer in prison their whole life. Make up your mind.

Capital punishment would only be useful in a just and honest society, which will happen in the not-too-distant future. In today's corrupt and immoral world, there is no compelling argument for it.

But what the hell is with this poster and his/her business teacher back in college?!? Who gives a flying *beep* what your business teacher in college thinks? What does a college business teacher know about it? What do you think? Or do you phone her up and ask her opinion whenever someone asks for yours? What does your grade five grammar teacher have to say on the subject? Gentle Jesus in the garden, person!

For it in cases involving murder, sexual assault, and child molesting. Too many criminals of lesser crimes are slapped on the hand. Many crimes are by repeat offenders because they had it too easy the first time. Between the death penalty for heinous crimes and a work farm for petty criminals, I am sure the crime rate would go down. I especially like the work farm idea, putting thugs to work 7 days a week for their prison term. If they were willing to work, they wouldn't be as likely to commit crimes in the first place.

It is curious that the states in the US that condone the death penalty have a lot in common with the strict Islamic countries that also use it. But the rest of the western civilized world does not use it. It’s quite ironic that they abhor ethos systems of government and justice.

Capital punishment does not reduce the murder rate. Canada abolished capital punishment in 1976 when the rate was 3.0 murders per 100,000 people. It has steadily declined since and as of 2009 was 1.81 murders per 100,000 people which is about 1/3 the current U.S. murder rate.

That's very interesting gbeach. Another practical issue to consider - what if the person didn't actually commit the crime? I find the number of headlines about supposed criminals that spend years in prison and then get released after DNA evidence finds them innocent to be alarming.

Doesn't prove anything, Japan still has the death penalty and has a murder rate of 1.1 per 100,000. It could easily be something like cultural mindsets or as simple as population size.

It's because America has been, is and always will be a breeding ground for turmoil.

I'm for the death penalty only because locking murderers up won't stop them from killing again. They can kill a guard or other inmate. I don't favor it as a punishment, but as a way to ensure murderers don't make the same mistake twice.

I also approve of it's use for rapists of people under 14 years of age and rapists of people over 14 years of age more than once. Rape is a heinous crime and shouldn't be tolerated.

To the world you may just be somebody, but to somebody you may just be the world.

Well for me. A dead offender is a lot better than a repeated offender. It also amazes me how people are so naïve to think that criminals will suffer in prison. Aren't you guys aware of the term Institutionalized?

as long as there is enough direct evidence ( DNA, credible witnesses, etc ) i am 100% in support of it. and yes, before anyone asks, if someone in my family or friends were murdered ( which a few have been ) and if the death penalty were available where we live, ( which it unfortunately is not ) I would absoloutely want to be there to witness their killers being executed. but if a case is mainly circumstantial, then not so much. i guess it would depend on the specifics of the crime. that being said however, I do believe it is a necessary option to keep on the books. far too many murderers these days get light sentences, or get out of jail and re-offend. their victims dont get second chances at life. why should they? and the fact that they usually have a better life behind bars than many law abiding citizens do outside the prison is disgusting.

reply

I'm absolutely for it, and if it were implemented more often I bet there'd be less crime. If people realized they could be put to death for committing a crime, then they most likely wouldn't do it
