He was clearly a psycho but I'm not sure he was able to kill someone to satisfy his psychosis. He's not hesistant to physically hurt Steve in the Medieval Times joust, he badly beat up Robin's date but was he ready to kill Robin in the finale? He also seemed to be obsessed with the Sam/Stan Sweet trial and probably sought the same kind of recognition, even if it was negative.

Well, think about it this way; what if Steven (not "Steve", and not "Stephen", like some people have erroneously claimed) had moved when he did that 'close cut' swing?
(It's kind of insane that they would give actual, sharp axe-weapons to audience members without training or profiling - that'd be asking for trouble)
Or what if he had mis-estimated the swing, and cut a few centimeters (inch or more for you nationalistic "this country"-folk that do not know the world is big and contains a lot of countries, or that internet is actually international) deeper?
Steven would already be dead, most likely. Besides, there was at almost any given moment during the fight the possibility of serious injury or death from his actions - what if Steven HADN'T been such a 'fierce fighter'?
Even a two-year old has enough power in him to kill an adult human being. It's just fortunate, that they usually don't know how to utilize that power yet. But the point is, such a fight would have been -extremely-dangerous- in real life, and potentially lethal as well. Anything could've happened, and the cable jerk wouldn't have cared. At least until it was too late.
Also, how he manhandled that innocent guy (who was written off as a jerk who insults the waiters (how typical, when they want to make a guy look like a jerk - even Seinfeld is guilty of this gimmick), could have easily resulted in serious injuries, as well, that could have lead to death.
So, he's almost a murderer already, and definitely a 'murderer waiting to actualize himself' (or a 'murder waiting to happen').
The fact that he isn't a murderer yet, is just a good luck.

shareHe kind of reminds me of Matt Damon's character in Talented Mr. Ripley. Chip was obsessed with Steven. I'm not sure if he would have been capable of killing him, but I could see him killing anyone that gets in the way of him and Steven.
I thought Cable Guy was funny when I was younger, but now (even though it still cracks me up)I'm aware of how dark it is.
First off, Wilson's guy was a dick. No doubts about it.
The way he was dressed, his hair, and the way he treated everyone from Robin, to the waiter, and to Chip when he first got in the bathroom screamed epic DB behavior.
As for Chip maybe but not to Steven at least. He seemed more just generally obsessed with him. He went out of his way to please him at first, then he hurt him both physically but also mentally, and by his rep. He didn't want to kill him but he wanted to eff his rep up and he did by Jail and taking his job away. He wanted to teach him a lesson about not screwing him and people over.
As for someone else possibly. Robin I doubt it, but Rick I could see it happening. He hated Rick and was jealous of him from the first moment he met him. Rick mocked him as a joke and Chip took it serious and dunked on him, then came the odd moment at the party. I could see Chip going after and hurting him as a way to blame the end of the friendship on him. I really could.
In the original script chip killed him
shareNo, in the original script, he stapled Rick's butt with a staple gun that had Steven's fingerprints on it(He had earlier asked Steven to go get his staple gun that he left when he installed Steven's cable the first day and the script made it clear that Chip never touches the staple gun)
Later, Rick is in the hospital unconscious and Chip calls the hospital phone and tells Steven that the cops are going to be looking for the fingerprints on the staple gun that injured Rick and coldly mentions that Steven's fingerprints are on the staple gun and the cops show up near Rick's hospital room and chase Steven but he gets away. This was cut obviously because CHIP'S fingerprints would have ALSO been on the staple gun unless he was wearing gloves but the script said nothing about gloves.
Chip would kill his own mother for a new friend.
