Censored Bit

There's a censored bit in the US version at the car chasing scene when Jack gets inside the destroyed vehicle. When Alex asks his wife where the collar is he says: "I have to do it, it's necessary". In the meantime he's looking for it inside her underwear.
Has anybody noticed other missing parts?

reply

There´s supposed to be a sex scene between Stephen Dorff and Jennifer Lopez in the uncut version.

reply

Oh, yeah, that's actually something I've been meaning to ask. Did she actually do that with him, cos she told Alex she didn't, and you never actually find out what happened.

reply

I saw the movie in a pre release test screening and vividly remember the Dorff / Lopez sex scene, occuring after the scene where he pushes her onto the bed holding the knife. At one point Lopez tells him to turn her around or to get behind her, she gets on all fours and Dorff goes at it from behind, which is almost certainly why it was censored, it surely would have been rated NC17.

reply

And why should we believe you?
This sounds very dubious, unlike most Rafelson films to include such a scene. Also, it wouldn't fit the tone of the film.

reply

Has anyone else seen the test screening or the uncut version? Is it true what this guy is saying describing that seen? I read an old magazine interview with her and she said she had a big naked love scene with Dorff. Also on the dvd, the director said that a sex scene was cut out by the producers. If the uncut or test screen version is out there, does anyone know where I can find it?

reply

Still wondering if anybody else ever saw the test screening for this film so they can describe the cut sex scene with lopez and dorff. Anybody?

reply

I also saw this test screening version. The audience seemed to be dealing OK with this rather dull film until the sex scene came up. It elicited laughter, which is surely why it was cut. "You don't need that knife" was La Lopez' line of dialogue. She interrupts the foreplay to "present" on all fours. Was surprised when I saw this on cable and the scene was cut. Rented the DVD and it wasn't there either. Too bad, as in retrospect it was the only scene I'd like to revisit.

reply

They didn't show any of it all in dvd. If you or anyone else who saw it can remember, did they really show Dorff going at it with her from behind, and if so, how long did scene last? And did they show her butt?

reply

The scene was brief. I wish I could remember better and fill you in authoritatively. When I saw the movie I did not even realize it was "that dancer from IN LIVING COLOR," much less that she would become quite the hot property in a couple of years. I think it was handled fairly tastefully given that this was a classy Hollywood film and everything.* Certainly no from-behind shots of her ass or instances of his pelvis smacking into her and causing her hip fat to ripple like a placid lake disturbed by a thrown pebble. Sorry, my mind was wondering. Anyway, I'm sure the effect was supposed to be erotic, not "porny." If I remember correctly, the theatrical cut/home video version does retain the (slo-mo?) shot of the knife being discarded. "You don't need that knife." Still makes me chuckle. I need to grow up.

*I say that with some irony.

reply

Thanks, know i had alot of questions but it is jennifer lopez, she's kinda of gorgeous! Didn't know how much of her they showed. Wish there was somewhere to see this cut out scene

reply

Yeah, I'm kinda surprised this isn't included in most non-US releases. A shame.

reply

Saw the one reply on here that the movie would have been rated nc-17 if that scene wasn't cut, thats why i wanted to find out. Didn't know if there was some intense sex scene

reply

You never know with the ratings board; they are such wimps about sex. Just reflecting the values of American parents, I guess. Don't recall thinking it was NC-17 territory, though. I don't think the scene particularly focused on the woman's pleasure, which is usually what terrifies them so.

Lopez discussed filming a love scene with Stephen Dorff in this interview:-

"It was a big love scene. It was a big, naked love scene. I don't want my mother and father to see Blood and Wine."

This is how the scene appears as written in the shooting script;

--------------------

176. INT. MASTER BEDROOM - NIGHT

He moves toward the bed.

JASON: Wake up, Alex. I want to see your face.

The sheets stir. Jason raises his knife to strike. But it isn't Alex in the bed, it's Gabriella. She lets out a strangled scream. He whips the sheet off her with his other hand. She's naked.

GABRIELLA: Jason! (her eyes on his knife) Don't hurt me. Please.

JASON: Where is he?

GABRIELLA: He went to get you! He's not coming back until tomorrow.

She timidly pulls the sheet over her body. Jason yanks it off her so hard it flaps loose from the corners. He touches her belly with the length of his knife, the blade flat to her skin. She freezes.

JASON: His car's here.

GABRIELLA: It's been here since he went to Napa.

JASON: I keep hearing about Napa. Did you ever call him there?

She shakes her head.

JASON: You don't know where he was.

She swallows to clear her voice. Her eyes haven't left the knife.

GABRIELLA: Why would he lie to me?

Ever so lightly Jason's fingertips find her skin.

JASON: You didn't waste any time, did you. You moved right in.

GABRIELLA: You don't need the knife. Put the knife down.

She knows men and children well enough to demand, not beg. Jason has almost forgotten he still has the knife against her. He lifts it and folds it and puts it away.

JASON: I'm going to wait for him, and I'm going to kill him.

His hand drifts along her body. She doesn't resist.

GABRIELLA: They'll lock you up.

JASON: Yeah.

GABRIELLA: 'Away from the sky and the air and the sea and the current running
against the wind?' That was a very beautiful letter.

Jason moves onto the bed, on his knees beside her.

JASON: Did you show it to him? You two have a laugh about it?

GABRIELLA: I never mentioned it!

Jason's hand curves around her throat, a caress, a threat.

JASON: Did you tell him how to find us?

Gabriella knocks his hand away from her throat.

GABRIELLA: No! He wasn't interested, he didn't care.

JASON: Sure, he did.

GABRIELLA: He was glad she left.

Jason lies down alongside her.

JASON: He had us followed.

GABRIELLA: W-why?

He shrugs; he doesn't trust her.

GABRIELLA: How do you know?

She thinks grief has driven him crazy, and he sees that.

JASON: I'm not crazy.

Gabriella lays her hand over his on the bed, to comfort him.

GABRIELLA: ... I'm so very sorry about what happened to your mother.

His hand skitters away and lights on her ribs.

JASON: Her loss, your gain.

Furious, Gabriella forgets her caution. She slaps him hard enough to throw his head sideways. Jason rolls on top of her and pins her down.

JASON: Her home, her bed -- her life.

He lowers his mouth to Gabriella's neck. His kiss is surprisingly gentle. His knee works her legs apart.

GABRIELLA: Don't do this for revenge.

JASON: Let's finish what we started.

Slowly, he kisses her. She lets her mouth respond: a sweet kiss, in spite of the circumstances. His fingers scissor her nipple.

JASON: Just don't tell me that you love me.

He peels off his T-shirt.

GABRIELLA: (in a whisper) I love you.

He gives her a hard look. She holds his gaze and pushes his jeans down until he finally kicks them off and they're both naked. They begin to make love.

GABRIELLA: Wait.

Jason doesn't understand. She gently pushes him back.

GABRIELLA: This way.

She turns on her stomach and guides him back into her. Jason moves now rapidly.

GABRIELLA: Slowly.

Her hand on his ass guides the pace. She hasn't had a young man in a long time.

GABRIELLA: (IN SPANISH) What are you doing to me?
(IN ENGLISH) Don't come, not yet.

They move as one, their passion enveloping them. He makes her come first. Then, when her body flattens, he also comes and he's lying on top of her, his face
alongside hers, their breath gentling. Finally, they lie side by side.

GABRIELLA: Will you get me a towel? With warm water.

He kisses her and gets up. If she didn't love him before, she does now.

reply

For anybody who saw the test screen with this scene in it. Is that how it was? Was it similar to the Marissa Tomei scene in Before the Devil Knows Your Dead?

reply

I watched this movie 10 years ago (here in Poland), but I still remember the scene when Nicholson searched for the collar in JLo's underwear, so yeah, that's true.

It was one of the best moments in the movie, so if it was cut in US version (maybe other scenes too), no wonder it has low ratings on IMDb.

As for Dorff-JLo sex scene, I think there wasn't any, but I can't be absolutely sure - I've never particularly fancied her, so maybe it just wasn't worth remembering for me :)

I don't know what the OP is talking about; that scene is in the movie, on the R1 disc. What, supposedly, is missing?

I just saw this on Encore movie channel in the US - the car search scene was in there.

I'm watching it on IFC, and they just showed that part.

I can't understand your crazy moon language.

That moment in particular lasts for 5 seconds. It is not something that would give a movie a R rating. It is quiet mild. Nothing really sexually graphic about it.

Yes the car scene is also in the French version but the question was about a sex scene with Dorff and Lopez. And even the French version didn't have that, so go figure !
