Major casting mistake! Tim Matheson was just so wrong!!
Tim Matheson as Al Donnelly: Okay, I hate to diss the guy, because he did an excellent and fine job of portraying a political hopeful running for governor of the State of Washington, all the while contending with a "hazardous" brother. But, [and this is a BIG BUT], he didn't look at all like a guy even remotely related to the brother character played by Chris Farley, Mike Donnelly.
Compare this with "Tommy Boy," where it was VERY PLAUSIBLE that Brian Dennehy's character (Thomas "Big Tom" Callahan) was really Chris Farley's/Tommy Boy's actual dad.
It would have been cool if they had cast one of Farley's REAL brothers, Kevin or John (both of whom, incidentally, were in this movie!), as the Al Donnelly character. It would have given the movie a lot more cred. But they didn't. So now the movie comes across as rather lame, clumsy and contrived. Too bad, because it had some funny s#!t in it throughout.
Gary Busey was excellent in this, btw...
