I couldn´t agree more, this is definitely the scariest werewolf ever. It´s the pure evil in his eyes and his speed that really makes you think, aha,I couldn´t survive ten seconds with that thing. All the other werewolves in the movies mentioned before were moving too slow, except those in Van Helsing (but it´s anything but a horror movie)or didn´t have the evil look in their eyes, not to speak about Lupin in Harry Potter, which is the most ridiculous creature I´ve ever seen.I hope we´ll see more of that kind in the future.
Out of all werewolf movies, this one terrifies the hell out of me, the way it looks, moves(especially those scenes where he is chasing the woman through the woods). just plain scary looking.
Yep, Bad Moon's werewolf is by far the best and scariest in my book. And it beats the ones from Underworld and Van Helsing because it's not crappy CGI, it's a guy in a very well made werewolf suit, which gives it a sinister and terrifying sense of realism. And what a cool idea to have a German Shepherd (named Thor no less!) go up against it and fight it to the death. The book was called Thor by the way and told from the dog's POV. BTW, did anyone notice it's tail in that scene after Thor knocks it out the window and they're both lying in the garden?
I agree too. I thought the transformation scenes in THE HOWLING were great and I was pissed off that American Werewolf in London won the Academy award for makeup effects. They were both great movies, but the Howling was scarier.
The best werewolves were in the Howling, American Wolf in London and Bad Moon. Dog Soldiers had good werewolves, but there was no originality to them. It was simply a real wolf head stuck onto a human body, that's the way I would describe it. Now back to the 3 movies. Howling werewolves were creepy looking, but in the light they wouldn't look real nor scary. The American one had a scary and frightening look, better than Howling's imo, even in the day time, one would stay clear of that demon dog. Now the wolf in the Bad Moon, simply put...the coolest looking werewolf ever seen in a movie, don't know why some ridicule it, it looks realistic. If that were to come out in day time, with that frightening face, it would still look real and dangerous.
I saw this movie as a kid, and I didn't used to pay attention to the actual story, just the action and costumes or cool things. The wolf caught my eye and ever since that day, I became a fan of this movie. Movie itself has a simple yet effective story, but with that wolf costume, it's just great. I love the look of the werewolf, those teeth...man now that's a werewolf that can tear you to shreds just by looking at you.

On the subject of the werewolves in "Dog Soldiers". It was made with the ethos "a soldier film with werewolves" the werewolves therefore become secondary and so one needn't be concerned with their appearance, transformation nor believability. I quite liked how we only caught a few brief glimpses of them because this leaves more to the imagination. It's one of my favourite films, the humour is top-class, the gore cleverly accentuates the black humour of the film and the soldiers make a memorable and brave stand against the ravenous lupine horde. The one thing I can't abide in horror films is how the protagonists are always helpless and usually blubbering wrecks. The soldiers are 'short-changed' because they could only salvage sub-machineguns, a few stun grenades and other household items (the saucepan with boiling water was genius) but they make the most of it and give the werewolves a good hiding before they go for the coup de grâce.
If impersonating a Police Officer is an offence, shouldn't actors be imprisoned? reply share
DEFINITELY one bad ass werewolf. I saw this movie for the first time when I was 11, and I absolutely LOVED that werewolf. I actually have bday invitations I made for my 12th birthday party. I had drawn the Bad Moon werewolf on the front of the invitation and made a bunch of copies hah But I'm getting off track..I am 26 years old now and it is STILL one of my favorite werewolves ever, and also one of my fave werewolf movies :)

Yeah, I have a similiar enjoyment with this movie. Like you, I also saw it when I was 11 years old and I rented it on VHS in 1997...and it was a pretty good werewolf film, still is. The only thing I didn't do was make 'Bad Moon' invitations for my birthday, but since I'm also 26 I have to agree with you. It's easily in my top 5 favorite werewolf films and that wolf design is simply one of the best-looking ones that I've ever seen IMO.
Also, I noticed you're a fan of 'Ginger Snaps'...me too, I love that film! It's a really original lycanthrope movie with a clever metaphor for puberty which I found really intriguing, ha.
I totally agree! Uncle Ted and William are the best!
But I am huge fan of Jon Gries work in The Moster Squad and Fright Night 2 also I loved Silver bullet's Reverend Lowe and the werewolf he became.... Totally creepy.
I liked the Ginger Snaps werewolf - more in Unleashed. The original was naked and looked just a little bit too rubbery, and the ones in Back scare me too much lol
Dog Soldiers is one of the best werewolf films going with some of the best werewolves imo.
I loved the Bad Moon werewolf - definitely top 5.
And, to whoever metioned it; Underworld werewolves are actually mostly costumes, NOT cgi.
It was like a blend of the Howling and American Werewolf in London with the tall big ear lean two legged wolf and fierce yellow eyes and fangs. The werewolf unlike the ones in the Howling that were in complete darkness was in bright light and graphically exposed, fx guys weren't afraid to show off what they created.
It's probably the coolest werewolf I've seen, it felt realistic in design and was imposing as Predator.
