How does he unlock himself in the morning? Not like he keeps the key between his butt cheeks cause he won't be able to reach.

Why doesn't he build himself a cage and any other sane werewolf?

Watching it now. Maybe he had a key hanging on his neck? Wouldn't be able to reach it as a wolf and it would have been buried in its fur so we wouldn't see it.

he swallowed the key and will...extricate it, in the morning. as for the cuffs, they were fashioned from silver. and his hands might grow but the wrists stay small enough just to make the cuffs really really tight.

Obviously he climbs the tree, severing each branch in his path until he reaches the top, slips his hands over the tree, and slides back down. That is why that guy was in the forest inspecting trees.
