Is this 1996-series better than ITV's Titanic 2012 ?

Are the special effects any good in both series and storyline?

Got to say, the scene where the Titanic sinks and they overlap it with people screaming histerically really ruined the film for me.

Seemed totally over the top and with all due respect. Really American.

Watch both and make your decision :)

In a way... But that's like saying liver cancer is better than brain cancer.

Effects could have been a lot better.

I dunno about that. Remember this was 1996; a full 16 years before Julian Fellows' version. This was pretty much as good as it got in terms of special effects for a Network TV movie or miniseries in those days. It was certainly on par with any of the special effects ABC or NBC were using for their movies. Another good example of the typical network capability for CGI in the 90's would be Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, starring Patrick Dempsey. Same effects as this, in some cases even worse, made a year or two later, and of course, underwater.

In my opinion Hallmark's 'Britannic', made four years later in 2000 had much worse effects than this did.
