Briefs!

Does anyone know why Briefs are like they are? By that I mean folded a bit like an oversized leaflet and tied with ribbon? Is it a traditional thing dating back hundreds of years (my guess)?

thanks

It's just an old tradition which has never really changed, in the olden days they used to sew them on, I've worked in firms where they still have these big needles and the secretaries had to know how to do it, some use red, not sure why!

I think it's great that traditions like that still exist.

Yeah, like the wigs and cloaks they wear in court. How intimidating must that be in British courts? Pity we don't use it to our advantage and actually punish people properly in this country....

You mean we shouldn't just tell them they've been very naughty boys and then hand them huge wads of cash because locking them up violated their rights?

reply

Do they wear them in all courts though, I thought it was only High Court but I could be wrong.

My Dad has some old 'briefs' dating about a hundred years that has to be tied up with red ribbon too! :)
