why no third series?
how come there was no third series in 1998? was it axed? or did the actors not want to do anymore?

shareIt certainly wasn't axed. There was huge clamouring for another series from both the public and the Beeb - apparently Mr Tony Garnett turned down a very lucrative offer to have BBC2 re-commission it. "Don't think I haven't been approached every year by people trying to get the series back on TV" he told the cast when they first reunited last year.
The show's creators decided that it was best to burn out than to fade away. And they were right to do so. How on earth could the climax of the final programme be topped?
When the public demand was at it greatest Tony Garnett reconsidered the idea of doing a third series but ultimatly he couldn't come with enough storylines to make it worth while to continue. If you look at the last few episodes and where the characters were at the end series two there was nowhere left to go as a group.
shareOne of the great things about British shows is they stop making them while they're still great instead of dragging them out until the $'s dry up. The exception to the rule being Only Fools And Horses!
