song at the end of last night's episode

Its driving me mad! At the very end of last night's second episode, when Anna is celebrating her tenancy and they are dancing about drinking champagne, what is the song being played? At first I thought it was the start of Motorcycle Emptiness but its too upbeat/quick for that. Anyway, I vaguely recognised it and then it cut off right before the chorus bit where I probably would have know it! Any ideas?

I wish I could help you, but I've totally forgotten the tune and I don't have the DVD... good luck though!

Think the song you're talking about is 'Rush Hour' by Joyrider, a mid-90s Northern Irish band. Jane Wiedlin from the Go-Go's originally released it in the 80s

Was a tad surprised to hear it the other night!

You know I thought it was Rush hour, I thought it sounded like that but was not the 80s version. I was even searching youtube for Rush Hour but couldnt find a cover, just the 80s one. Then I thought I was being stupid thinking it was that. The scene ended right before the chorus or I would have got it! I do have a vague memory of hearing the song at the time. For some reason I was totally convinced it was the manic street preachers, dunno why though.

I'm so glad I have an answer, it's been driving me mad, i've been googling the bits of the lyrics I could remember and getting nowhere, and obviously getting absolutely no work done at all!!

Cheers!!!

Errrm
Wasn't it Enola Alone by the Manic Street Preachers ?
The scene finished just before the chorus ...

I'm pretty sure the song I'm thinking of is Rush Hour, I can't find a cound clip for Rush Hour anywhere but found the lyrics and they are what I remember the guy singing right at the start of the song. There were a few joyrider clips on Youtube, but not Rush Hour, grrrrr.

Maybe Enola was played sometime else in the episode or series, but its definatly not the song I was looking for, its way too downbeat compared to Rush Hour. Its just a pain the scene cut off before the chorus. Think I'm going to have to get the This Life box set anyway so can check it out again and be sure!!!

Slightly off topic - is it true that the music was selected by Ricky Gervais?

reply

yeah, its true. He was some kind of BBC music consultant at the time and I think he went and did a similar role within C4. Thats presumably how he got the job on 11 O Clock news?
