Milly and O'Donnell

What was the point of them. They were both so incredibly dull and added nothing to This Life.

Also their affair was poorly done. They had absolutely no chemistry together and it seemed very contrived.

I totally agree, I was only 14 when i first saw This Life back in 1996 and even as as teen I thought it was odd and that O'Donnell was a minger (i did really fancy andrew lincoln though so im biased) I am watching my This Life videos at the mo and still think O'Donnell is a minger (Im 26 now) and the affair is very poorley done its just wrong and theres no chemistry at all.

I don't agree, there was definitely a sexual tension between them from the start - and whether you or I find O'Donnell attractive is beside the point, what matters is that it was believable that Milly found him attractive. They even pretty much spelled out what it was she found attractive about him. She was getting fed up with Egg's slacker attitude, "new man" persona and occasional childishness and was attracted to O'Donnell because he was completely different and had the qualities Egg lacked: the "old school" masculinity of a powerful, authoritative, more mature male figure. In a way, he was more a obvious match for the ambitious, emotionally restrained person like Milly, since they had more in common. Milly and Egg were always more of an "opposites attract" kind of a couple, but I never felt they really worked together.

Pain is to pleasure as disco is to punk. You need to live through one to fully appreciate the other.
