but was thinking of picking it up to check it out. I was looking at the seasons and why did they only make 6 episodes in 1999 and then 2 final episodes in 2000? Why the long gaps towards the end of the series? Anybody know?

Fortunately, despite that, it's still very well done. One of my favorite takes on Superman.

Animated series, especially for children, in general have fewer episodes and especially after the first year or two (I think mostly because kids don't mind watching reruns more often).
I also think it was somewhat abrupt for the final two episodes to be the finale, tv.com trivia says they considered having them as the first of a new set of episodes but instead got more interested in Batman Beyond.
