The characterization of Sabrina in season 7

While it seems to be a universal opinion that season seven was a dismal failure all around, I've been watching it again recently and what stands out as being particularly bad is the characterization of Sabrina herself. She's like a completely different character, because gone is the relatively confident, witty, natural and charming person she was for the previous six seasons and in her place is a supremely annoying motor mouth who doesn't know when to stop talking, embarrasses herself just by existing, and is the definition of a try-hard.

It's like, did the writers even know what show/character they were writing for! The Sabrina in season seven couldn't be more different from the "real" Sabrina. You could say it's an effect of the aunts not being around to ground and guide her anymore but no one changes that much. It's clearly just uninspired, terrible writing.

What do you think?

In my opinion, Sabrina was at her best season 1-4. College years were okay... But post-college were like a different show. And I agree, Sabrina really wasn't Sabrina anymore. I personally don't think the writers expected the show to run that long, and we're running out of ideas or something because it just felt very forced

It shouldn't have even been called teenage witch in season 7 (or 6) but that's the comics where it came from.
It was about her growing up, getting a job. But sad the Aunts went, maybe she and the girls should've found a different house, maybe still one with a new entrance to the other realm.

Harvey dumping her for finding out she was a witch, was just for her to date Josh.
He was fine with it on some episode when she could tell him and Valerie for a day.

I did notice I thought Season 7 Sabrina seemed to be more a perfectionist and I couldn't imagine her doing some of the silly things she did in earlier seasons.
That said, I agree it seems she does seem embarassing with things she says but it seems like she's trying too hard. She almost seems like the sort of character Sabrina in high school would've disliked.

I do think Sabrina changed somewhat over the show. In Season 1 I thought she seemed a lot more shy, introverted, and seemed really affected by how people such as Libby treated her.
I think in my opinion after that she seemed more confident and knew who she was a bit more. Still dorky in the sense she seemed like she wasn't afraid to make fun of herself or look silly to an extent, but also cool and well liked, and not afraid to give her opinion, such as being intelligent at school and standing up for others, whilst never being really seen as popular.
It did annoy me somewhat from Season 5 it did seem a lot more about her love life.
