Sabrina nostalgia...

I imagine a lot of us grew up watching "Sabrina" or were quite young when it started. For some reason, moreso than any other TV show, "Sabrina" has a very strong nostalgic effect on me when I watch it now.

It was one of my favourites (still is, to be totally honest), so obviously my memories of watching it are fond. But for some reason, I can recall moments and little, insignificant details when I watch "Sabrina", particularly the first season. I can still remember the timeslot - Saturdays at 5:30pm (okay, it might've been 5pm but hey, what's half an hour after so many years!) - and I watched it right from the beginning, when it first aired in the UK. They used to pair with the "Clueless" TV series. Saturday evening UK TV used to be solid viewing back then, which is possibly one of the reasons for the nostalgia. But it's still peculiar to me, how something like watching episodes of a show I've seen dozens of times can have such a strong effect on my memory.

I feel the same way! I always remember watching the show on CITV when I was really young (I was born in 1994) and then a few years later, when I got Nickelodeon, they started showing it from the very beginning so I'd watch it every morning before going to Primary School. Then about four years ago, me and my friend randomly began discussing the show and he mentioned it was all on YouTube so for the next few days I did nothing but watch the show right through! The nostalgia was overwhelming and I couldn't believe just how much I still loved the stories and the characters! Now I'm in my final year of university and I still like to watch an episode whenever I'm feeling down because the nostalgia makes me feel so much better!

Little people? Who decides they are so unimportant?

Does anyone remember Sabrina showing on SM:TV hosted by Ant and Dec. I'm sure there was a segment each week where Dec would profess his love for Sabrina.

Have I imagined this?

reply

No, you're absolutely right! "Sabrina" was on SM:TV with those Dec sketches, and on CiTV as well. If I remember correctly once it switched to the CiTV block, it stopped being shown on Saturday evenings which is where it began.

I also remember Caroline Rhea did an interview on SM:TV.

I thought it began on Nickeodeon, at least that where I saw it first, though I do remember it being on SM:TV, but that was the second place I saw it. I think. It was definitely Nickelodeon I saw it on first, I know that much.

It might've aired on Nickelodeon first in the UK; our house didn't have cable back then, so I first saw it when it aired on terrestrial TV.

Got it. I was quite young when my family got cable ("satellite" for us), it must have been at least 1992, as we got Nickelodeon in around 1993, or earlier I'm sure based on what shows were on at the time (my first children's channel was literally called "The Children's Channel" or "TCC" - it doesn't exist anymore) for years I even thought that Nickelodeon premiered in the early 90s, because I remembered it as being brand new rather than just "new to me".

Yes!I miss this show, I wish it was all on netflix. I remember looking forward to it every Friday (I think!?). I miss quality kids tv shows like that. Now theyre all way overacted and obnoxious

It was on TGIf, on ABC when it orginally aired stateside. The episode that gives me the most nostalgia is the time ball episode. Maybe because it was a whole TGIF thing, where Salem was going into every show and changing the decade. I also remember boy meets world going to the 40s!
I was about 7 and I still remember being hyped for a whole week for that to come on! And here come the warm fuzzies right on cue.

It's one of my all time favorite shows.
