Why did they get rid of Libby?

I never understood why they dropped her character and then brought Brad and Dreama. I personally liked Libby's character a lot more than those other characters they brought in like Roxy and Morgan. I actually would have liked it if Libby was her college roommate and she and Sabrina became friends.

There has never been a reason given as to why Libby was written out of the show. She was a very popular character and Jenna Leigh Green wanted to continue the role so it's baffling that the writers decided to give her the boot. Currently, there is only speculation as to why she was written out but I'm hoping Melissa's new book gives some insight, though I'm not holding my breath. I also would have liked her to be one of Sabrina's college roommates, that would have been a good storyline.

Little people? Who decides they are so unimportant?

This would have been a great storyline.

Totally a great story line.

This would have been a great story line. I too always wondered why she was written out. Jenna Leigh Green was a great actress.

A good twist would be Libby is so unpopular in college compared to high school, and sabrina is more liked. Maybe to change Libby's character in college, they can just have her being less popular than she would be in high school. I don't want her and sabrina as friends, but even if she is more friendly to her, still having libby remain the same character and personality and not truly change.

I would of liked to have seen Libby return in the college years or at least Valarie. Might have been fun to see one person from the high school era return to be Sabrina's roommate. Libby would of been a better choice though.

I don't actually know the answer but part of me thinks that they got rid of the character so that they could change the dynamic of the show e.g. When Libby was there, Sabrina, Harvey and Valerie were all underdogs. So, maybe they wanted the senior year to be the season where Sabrina wasn't being called freak etc.

Although, part of me can't understand why they would get rid of her while the 'school years' were still airing and not just wait until she went to college. Same with Valerie.

I agree. To me it did seem an odd decision to get rid of her before Season 4. I would've thought Libby was universally a popular character and it's interesting other posters say that above too.

I think I assumed Jenna Leigh Green quit the show as it seemed she got successful with doing theatre work mostly so I think I thought it was for a reason like that. I only found out she was axed recently from these boards, I think.

My only explanation would be that her and Valerie were written out to be replaced by new characters simply in the hope of generating interest and ratings with the changes.
Libby's role seemed replaced by Brad and maybe the writers had the story of Brad being a witch hunter planned as well.

Personally I thought the college seasons had a lot of missed opportunities and I would've liked to have seen Libby again too. I'm not sure I could've seen her living with Sabrina or anything but maybe making some guest appearances.

I think Nate Richert was axed after Season 4 when the new team made changes to the show, and I wonder if they regretted that decision because they ended up bringing him back anyway because the fans wanted it so much. I think I may have read that Season 5 didn't get great ratings and a lot of fans turned off because of Harvey being written out.

I never liked Libby's character so I didn't care that she was dropped... It always perplexed me how Libby would walk around like she's hot stuff whilst both Sabrina and Valerie were much hotter than her. Just didn't seem believable IMO.

I think a majority of the original cast was fired when Sabrina switched to (what was then) the WB network. The only remaining characters being Sabrina, her aunts and Josh. I personally missed Martin Mull the most, he was funniest part of the show! I wish they could've pulled a Boy Meets World and just had the principle follow his students to college

"Troubled childhood? If you consider a 9 year old kid with a 35 year old girlfriend troubled."

reply

Problem with this principle following his students to college is it was one student and they didn't exactly have the best relationship like Cory, Eric, Sean, Topanga, etc had with Feeny.

reply

I also wished they would have kept Valerie for the rest of the high school seasons, and had her as a college roommate as well.

reply

I fully believe she wanted to continue the character but maybe they couldn't work out scheduling and so they had to write her out.

reply

i would have liked to have seen libby continue the show into college but i think they never would have become friends which was a great dynamic. would have been boring if they had been friends

reply

I suspect drugs.

Na, in all seriousness: season four saw a lot of bad changes to Sabrina, and afterwards it only got so much worse. Thus I pretend season 4-7 dont exist.

I agree it was 'unconvincing' for a 'teenage witch' to be an adult in college. The show should have ended after she graduated high school. Other young adult series could kinda sorta stretch stories and ages bc they did not have 'teenage' in the title. But this series did not have that luxury.

Um she was a bitch and no one liked her?

Like Killian Jones, I believe in good form. But like Capt Hook, I also believe in having fun.

Um she was a bitch and no one liked her?

I figured it was the exact opposite.

reply

That's true. She was a bitch but a really entertaining character.

Consider the daffodil. And while you're doing that I'll be over here looking through your stuff.

reply

Yes a bitch, a very entertaining character and sooo hot!!! I had a major crush on her as Libby, it was such a shame they decided to get rid of her, she had a lot of talent as an actress, i can't believe how stupid they were to let her go.

reply

She was excellent, I always compare her to Cordelia on Buffy/Angel. I wonder if you could have made her Sabrina's friend without losing the essence of her character.

reply

Yeah that really would have been great, if they became friends, she could have kept the same personality, i think they could have made that happen but just chose not to, for whatever reason, i heard Melissa Joan Hart in an interview one time, she said Jenna Leigh Green is one of the nicest people, the total opposite of her character Libby.

reply

I'm not surprised. Something about Jenna's eyes when she showed up on screen told me she was genuinely a nice person. I don't know why, but seeing her as a mean person offscreen was unbelievable to me.

reply

Most of the hated characters on TV are really nice in real life. It is only a role.

reply

she was the only reason i watched . she was so hot and is still sexy.
