There's been rumours of a reboot/reunion for years, but it seems to be getting more likely than ever. With Melissa & Joey finished, it seems like Melissa has been a little more eager to make a return as Sabrina and she has now revealed that there has been serious discussions about bringing the show back! So what do we think?

Of course, as one of my favourite shows of all time, I'm nervous that it won't live up to the hype. However, nothing can ever take away from the best years of the show and the total perfection that was the series finale "Soulmates". And show pretty much reached rock bottom with the horrible Season 7 anyway, so it's not like a reboot could be any worse!

On Twitter, Jenna Leigh Green (Libby) has said she wants to come back. Plus, I tweeted saying I wanted the whole cast back - Caroline Rhea (Hilda) liked and retweeted it, so it looks like she's up for it, and Elisa Donovan (Morgan) actually tweeted me back saying "Morgan is IN" so it seems like a lot of the cast are more than up for reprising their roles!

If they could get everyone back (Melissa, Nate, Beth, Caroline and Nick, in particular) then I really think this could be something special! Sabrina the Teenage Witch is one of the most memorable shows of the 1990s and it's about time that we saw it back on our screens, even if it's just for one final outing!

Little people? Who decides they are so unimportant?

reply

I wouldn't mind for a "Fuller House" type of Sabrina, the Teenage Witch reboot series.

In this current climate of rebooting old 90s TV shows I feel like the producers & crew of "Fuller House" got it right over the producers & crew of "Girl Meets World". Melissa Joan Hart should take a page out of their book for this possible reboot series.

reply

That's interesting, I haven't watched either of those reboots. What exactly did "Fuller House" do better than "Girl Meets World"?

"Fuller House" succeeded in retaining the original feel & tone of the original series, while also equally feeling like it's own sequel, reboot series too as well. Watching "Fuller House" feels like you're watching a brand new season of "Full House" after the series having not made new episodes since 1995, but also at the same time feels like a sequel to the original series. The reboot has it's own original feel to it separate from it's parent series, and in some ways it's actually quite better than it's original series.

"Girl Meets World" feels like a watered down, kiddie version of "Boy Meets World" (and a bad version of it at that) despite ironically being written by the original creator of the series himself. Being on the Disney Channel had really hurt what that series could have done/been, and it really would've been much better if it were on ABC Family (the original series regularly airs on that channel anyway). "Girl Meets World" feels less like a "Boy Meets World" series, and more like any one of those other live-action shows on the Disney Channel. It's practically interchangeable with the other Disney Channel shows, and the only difference is that "Girl Meets World" has 2 "Boy Meets World" characters regularly on it (Cory & Topanga). Basically what I'm trying to say is that despite it's name "Girl Meets World" for all intents & purposes is just another, run of the mill, modern-day, live-action Disney Channel series, only with Cory & Topanga chaperoning in the background on it.

I just feel like the producers, writers, & crew behind "Fuller House" made the smarter moves towards their series vs. the crew behind "Girl Meets World".

- They put the series on Netflix which allows them to get away with more stuff, and also put out the whole, entire season of the series for fans to watch, replay, and/or binge watch whenever they want.

- They knew that even though this is a sequel/reboot series that the fans just wanna see a big reunion of all of the original characters, so the very 1st episode of "Fuller House" was a big reunion episode in addition to it being it's own pilot to the reboot series.

- They sprinkled in a few of the veteran original characters here & there, every now & then throughout the season (even though technically they were genuinely times when they weren't needed, but they know that there are fans out there who would love to see them anyway). Unlike "Girl Meets World", "Fuller House" has proven that it's actually capable of standing on it's own two feet without the help of an original, old character reappearing. A lot of people have said that the series is great in it's own right, and a few of those episodes where an old character had reappeared would've genuinely been great episodes all on their own even if the old character hadn't reappeared in them. There's a lot of people out there for example who genuinely love episode 2 far more than episode 1 even though episode 1 was the big reunion episode.

- It was marketed much better (at least IMHO).

Always felt the same. Could follow Sabrina and Harvey's daughter and be a similar show to the original just following them. Could have the other original characters like the Aunts and stuff pop up too.

reply

Yeah a reboot isn't far off, if they do it within the next 5 years, the daughter would be perfect to be turning 15 or 16. Follow her life, with Sabrina and Harvey appearing, and the aunts showing up in recurring roles from time to time. Maybe Sabrina's cousins Amanda or her sister could go to the same school her daughter did. Maybe Libby's daughter also goes to Sabrina's daughters school, or her son.

reply

I watched an interview where Melissa sadly confirms that a reboot won't happen, or at least not possible.
She said it's more likely a Clarissa Explains It All reboot would happen sooner.
For one side, I was bummed because I was eager to watch Harvey and Sabrina as a married couple with children and of course with friends and family.
But on the other hand, if it'd come back a full series, probably would happened the same thing as Girl Meets World who lasted only 2-3 seasons. Or look repetitive as Fuller House.
What I'd think it could work is a mini series as "Gilmore Girls" did, about Sabrina's daughter about to turn 16, her preparation of being a witch (even a quarter part) and the dilemma if Harvey would be able to see her after that (if they respect the original rule of mortal parents not able to see their kids after that age)
Just a product of my imagination, heh.

Nevertheless, who can't complain about that beautiful ending 14 years ago? At least, I don't.

reply

This is a false report according to Melissa on social media.

I wouldn't want Sabrina without Harvey and he hasn't aged well so I really don't want a reboot unless it's Harvey died and so she moves with her kids to the other realm and teaching them to be witches and more of the other realm adventures.

I would really like to see a series that focuses on Sabrina and Harvey, now as grown adults, living in the same house in Westbridge, with Salem but also with one or two teenage children (who at some point, discover they too have magical powers).

I really think there's scope for that. They could go to Westbridge High (So, Mr Kraft and Mrs Quick could make guest appearances) and maybe Sabrina and Harvey's son could go out with a girl, who turns out to be Libby Chesler's daughter (?!!)

BUT this would all be on the condition that Melissa Joan Hart, Nate Richert and Nick Bakay all agree to play their respective parts again. If Beth Broderick and Caroline Rhea would be willing to return as Hilda and Zelda too, if only occasionally, that would be amazing.

Regular or guest appearances from Valerie, The Quiz Master, Dreama, Brad, Morgan, Roxy, Josh and Mike Shelby would be good too.

I am extremely pessimistic about any reboot of Sabrina.

The only reason why I like season 1-3 of Sabrina so much is because the actors are so awesome:

- Probably never before or after was there a young woman with so much likeability and charisma as Melissa Joan Hart.

- Salem (the cat) is awesome. Actually its the only part of the show that stays completely awesome through all seven seasons.

- Harvey is an absurdely awesome match to MJH.

- The aunts are great, too.

- Valerie was very funny.

- Other awesome characters have been Mr Pool and Albert the Quizmaster.

Now if they would actually get their act together and would get good script writers plus a solid cast I wouldnt complain, but whats the chance for that ? One would need people with a vision. People who are able to write longer story arcs that address real issues people have in reallife. People who refrain from falling into the errors the original show had - throwing away good characters without explanation left and right, repeating the same formula in every episode, making the main character dislikeable by her going after all kinds of boys while Harvey stays faithful, etc.

And about Sabrina & Harvey as adults, nah. If they would have done it much sooner, sure. But now MJH is really old looking. I wouldnt want her to revive Sabrina now anymore.

Ouch. I disagree though, I thought she looked great on Melissa & Joey. But more than that I really loved her charm and charisma. It was very reminiscent of Sabrina. So I wouldn't mind seeing Melissa again on TV in a sitcom, just not as Sabrina. I actually want closure for TV shows and I'm happy with enjoying them for what they were.

I kinda agree with you. Melissa Joan Hart is the iconic face for the Sabrina character just like Lynda Carter is for Wonder Woman...but I don't doubt that there is someone out there who could possibly play the role better.

I love Nate Richert's Harvey for example (his Harvey is certainly iconic), but I feel like Tobias Mehler's Harvey from the 1996 Sabrina TV movie/pilot was actually much better in the role.

I think that the toughest act to follow in any Sabrina reboot would be someone replacing the iconic voice of Salem. Whenever I see Salem I can't imagine anyone else voicing that cat (and actually doing a great job at it) but Nick Bakay.

About the reboot, if it's not a continuation of Melissa Joan Hart's series and is a complete reboot, then one thing I would like to see is a much more faithful adaptation from the comics/source material. It would be nice to see Archie & the gang in Sabrina's universe.

MJH is old looking? Yet you say nothing about Harvey who looks old as *beep* and hideous and bald.

Look at MJH's instagram. She looks GREAT for her age.

She's 40 and could easily pull off 30-35. Still 'Sabrina' enough to me.

Look at Harvey! LOL. And that's with headshot photoshop.

I would be fine with her in the reboot. But Harvey is the one that declined.

reply

I agree, I think she looks great for 40. To say that she is really old looking and act like she is offensive to look at now and then say nothing about Harvey just left a bad taste in my mouth. I usually try to refrain from judging others looks too harshly but with Harvey there is just no getting around it. He is the one that has aged really badly.

reply

Exactly. Classic sexist remarks about females in Hollywood really.

reply

Still on that feminism kick? Feeling insecure again. Gee what a shock.

reply

Uh-hu.

Re-read what you wrote.

Re-read what I wrote.

Now please explain why exactly what I wrote opposes what you wrote ? Thats what I complained about.

reply

Because I don't think she is "really old looking" just because she is 40. Melissa is 40, that's a fact but that doesn't automatically translate to really old looking.

When your mind breaks the spirit of your soul.

reply

She's aged remarkably better than the rest of the cast.

reply

Nate Richert is far less famous than Melissa, and he is not the 'Sabrina' of the show. Melissa is. That could MAYBE be why someone is focusing more on her looks. Additionally, whether your triggered feminist mind likes it or not, female sexual appeal is more based more in visuals, male appeal is based more in status. The fact that women are often given more looks emphasis is simply based in human biological design. You have an issue with it, you'd have take it up with nature - not some imaginary patriarchy you probably believe in.

That said, again, Melissa is the star of the show and therefore would receive more attention in discussions of a reboot (she was in every episode and Harvey was outright absent from like one and half seasons). I don't care about her looks, personally, but you also sound like a right hypocrite. You think it wrong and sexist for a woman to be criticized for her looks, yet without hesitation you make the bitchiest comments about Richert's looks. If you're so sensitive and want a world of equality, then shouldn't you be above trashing ANYONE'S looks? Funny thing is, from my own perspective he doesn't even look as awful you as claim. Looks like a pretty regular bald, middle aged guy - nothing 'hideous' there.

reply

I was disappointed with Girl Meets World and Fuller House. Sabrina is one of my all time favorite shows and I would hate to see it turn out like Fuller House.
