DVD purchase (all 3 seasons in one????)

I remember watching this show when it came and thinking it was one of the best ones out there at that time, even though I don't quite remember it that well.

I've been thinking about buying the complete 3 season box set (it's cheaper than buying each season separately) but after looking at some of the posts, maybe I should just buy seasons 1 and 2 since season 3 appears to have been so awful.

Would appreciate some feedback.......

Yes, if you like this series, buy all seasons. Don`t give up so quickly watching season 3 just because someone else think it`s poor. Make up your own opinion after watching it.

No freakin' way. That is absolutely not true. S2 is the only season I own. It's the only one I care to own.

Actually, sisterdebmac, it is freakin' true. Chris Carter had nothing to do with the writing of season 2.

He didn't have that much to do with the writing of season 1, either. He just pitched a "Seven or Silence of the Lambs every week" show to Fox, and surrounded himself with a production team that got it off the ground.

He was unhappy with it, and even said he didn't even watch most of that season.

That's very disengenuous of you. He didn't watch it at the time because he was too busy. In the recent Back to Frank Black podcast interview, he said that Darin Morgan's season 2 episodes are amongst his favorites of the series. As he rightfully should - they're masterpieces.

Season two is a departure from the crime solving episodes and more into the Millennium Group Mythology, going from good guys to suddenly, bad guys.

No, we just see a schism within the Group. The Millennium Group are not outright villains until Season 3 - the season that Chris Carter was ostensibly more involved with again.

I strongly suggest sticking with the show all the way to the end. Okay, Season 3 may take some edgy getting used to after the arc the second season provides, but it's totally worth the watch IMHO. Please, go ahead and get the series set, it's probably the best deal you're gonna find (I got it for $39!), you may even get it cheaper than the first two seasons combined. Here's a review of mine on the entire series: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0115270/usercomments-92 If you don't feel like watching the whole shabang after reading that, then there's nothing more I can say. With the series set, you'll get the best possible deal for all three seasons, all the extras Fox generously gave us, and even the post-Millennium X-Files crossover episode. Your call.

Any Buffyverse comic that's post-"Not Fade Away" is non-canon, my PoV says.

Get all three. Season 3 seems awful at first, because the transition out of season 2 (which ended brilliantly, IMHO) was awkward. But the reconfigured crew gets a real feel for the show about ten episodes into the season, and there's some great stuff after that. The series finale is fantastic.
