Here's my thing... (an overall review of Millenium)

Chris Carter's Millenium is, without a doubt, one of the best television programs I have ever seen (apart from his other opus, The X-Files). Its blend of gritty reality with chilling apocalyptic overtones kept me coming back for more.
However, it is not entirely perfect. The first season is without flaw. I cannot think of an episode that didn't hook me. The second season, however, has its ups and downs. Its ups are episodes like the season premiere, ironically called The Beginning and the End. My favorite episode contained in this season is called The Curse of Frank Black; a halloween-themed episode about regret and letting go of anger to move forward lest you find the Devil breathing down your neck. Speaking of Devils, there is also an absolutely hilarious epsiode called Somehow Satan Got Behind Me that is an anthology episode dealing with demons talking about their dalliances with influence over humanity and Frank Black's interference.
The lows for the season include let downs like The Pest House, a more condensed version of the movie Urban Legends and Sense and Antisense, which deals with bioengineered viruses (as if dealing with a virus in The X-Files wasn't enough).
One thing that bugged me was the character of Lara Means(Kristen Cloke). She was incredibly sexy and smart as hell but underutilized throughout the season. I would have liked to see her as a more regular cast member(and not just for her looks lol). It probably would've appeared to be nepotism though considering she's married to Glen Morgan who happened to be sharing creative resoponsibility with James Wong for the second season.
The third and final season marked not only Chris Carter's return to the series but a return to the more gritty realism of the first season though with a mix of the occult/paranormal tones of the second season. I am remiss in my knowledge/memory of all the third season. I do remember being disappointed with a lot of the episodes merely because they lacked the gravitas that had been central to the first and parts of the second seasons.
Carter seems to have been putting more effort and time into The X-Files and less time (and enthusiasm) into Millenium; possibly one reason why viewership was winding down and why eventually Fox decided to pull the show (apart from them being idiots when it comes to keeping "good" programming on the air). As a means of wrapping up Millenium, a one-time crossover episode with The X-Files was aired and it was fantastic; a crossover that I think could've worked time and again with both shows throughout their respective runs but thats another topic for another day.
All in all, I would give this show a 9/10. For any of you out there just discovering it, please disregard my opinions on episodes from the second and third seasons. You really have to watch the whole run in order to form a more solid and cogent view on it and I wouldn't want to deter anyone from watching what I have considered to be almost perfect in terms of tv shows. As for the fans out there, here's my thing: why the hell have they not even outlined a movie for Millenium? There have been two X-Files movies already with the possibility of a third so what gives? The second movie feels more like an episode of Millenium anyway so it would've made more sense to be just that. With the events that have unfolded over the past decade, there would be plenty of fodder for a movie if not more episodes of the show. Until such time though, there is only fan-fiction to pour through and sites like this to discuss episodes with all of you fans out there.
This is who we are.
