‘The Daily Show’ Begs Canada to Invade the US to Restore Democracy – and Bring Health Care
share
Be prepared to wait three years for an essential surgery. Oh, and if you're under 65 forget it, you only exist to subsidize everyone else's "free" healthcare while you have to spend years on a waiting list just to find a family doctor.
shareI live in Canada and I haven't seen these things happening.
shareThat's a lie. Essential surgeries have long waiting lists and were further delayed due to covid. People have died just because time ran out and they couldn't get the "free healthcare" they needed. Millions of Canadians do not have a family doctor. Keep watching your propaganda and pretend that everything is fine. I bet that when you are desperate and need healthcare it won't be there for you.
shareThere is a wait due to COVID (as there is elsewhere). Otherwise, there's no wait list. My daughter needed a procedure after she was born prior to the pandemic and she did not wait three years. Also, we have a family doctor and a pediatrician for our daughter who still see us despite the pandemic. They just contact us via the internet I don't know of anyone who waited three years for surgery or can't get a family doctor.
shareWhat province is this? I think you're out of touch.
shareI live in Ontario. I am currently in Toronto and I've lived about 20 minutes outside the city. My wife's family is from all over Southern Ontario (one sister in Nova Scotia and I know former co-workers from Saskatchewan, Quebec, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia as well). I've not seen any issues. And I might be out of touch since I am not Canadian. I'm just telling you what I've experienced.
shareHave you had the same doctor for many years? Do you realize that if you move to a new city you will have to go a wait list which could take years? People often just have the same doctor (or a doctor from the same practice) since childhood, but they don't realize that millions of people don't have a family doctor just because they moved to a new city and lost their old one. This is a very real documented issue that you are choosing to ignore just because you're more privileged than everyone else.
shareWe moved twice in the span of two years and had no problems with getting doctors. And I am not choosing to ignore anything. I have no idea what you are talking about. What part of Canada are you from?
I should also point out I'm American, so I have experienced both countries' healthcare (as well as South Korea's healthcare system for a little over a decade).
Literally just search "millions of Canadians no family doctor" on google and you will have estimates showing up from 4 million on the low end to well over 5 on the high end. Cute little make believe world you live in where doctors just fall out of the sky at no cost after marking the X next to Liberal Party on the ballot.
shareI'm telling you what I have experienced. If you think I'm lying, then I guess any sort of conversation with you is pointless. I also can't help but notice that you demanded to know what province I live in but you are refusing to say which one you live in. And yet, I'm the one that isn't honest?
shareDon't waste your time arguing with this filthy troll who obviously has some axe to grind. What's this about asking which province you're from and asserting you must be lying because you have a different perspective on the Canadian healthcare system than he does? Wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't even a Canadian at all but an American posing as one to besmirch Canada's quasi-socialist healthcare system. Even his arguments about "long wait lists" sound like the drivel reactionaries like nutjob Pat Robertson use to disparage any form of socialism. Don't engage in banter with this unpleasant vermin.
shareit's nice to not to have to go bankrupt because you get sick.
shareBetter bankrupt than dead. In Canada you will die waiting for the surgery while the rich well-connected Liberal Party insiders can cross the border and pay out of pocket for American healthcare. In America, at least people can anticipate costs, save money tax-free, and get help from family, community, etc. when something unexpected happens. Or you sell the house and save your life. That's a fair trade off.
shareWhat a bunch of baloney, TreeShaman. But feel free to get sick in the USA. And good luck.
shareGet sick in Canada, and you will die unless you are a well-connected special interest.
shareHigher life expectancy in Canada. Boom!
shareSo? That has nothing to do with the healthcare system. It's diet and lifestyle choices.
shareLol you're clutching at straws. Thanks for the dance.
shareSo let me get this straight. Having socialist healthcare magically prevents people from getting obese? You're going to have to explain that one.
America has a serious public health problem with the obesity rate, but having more socialism is not going to magically solve that problem. It's a problem unique to their culture.
I work in the US in healthcare, and I know for a fact that a TON of people come to the US from Canada to have orthopedic surgeries because they don’t want to wait in Canada, and they feel better about the care they will receive in the US.
Screw The Daily Show. It’s biased garbage (like all media today), and Trevor Noah is about as funny as running your balls through a table saw. He’s awful.
And lastly...I would like to see Canada invade the US. Best of luck. 😂 I wonder why people don’t realize you are free to move wherever you choose if you think it is better there.
Canadians who can afford to will cross the border for premium healthcare that is only available in the USA with no wait lists. I plan on saving significant money for healthcare expenses when I'm older for exactly this purpose because I can't rely on the "free" Canadian socialist system in my old age. It will not be there for me when I might need it.
shareI'm assuming you are not Canadian?
The US has gotten hit much harder than Canada with Covid.
shareBecause of obesity, not the healthcare system.
shareyour public health care system is terrible. third world like in some states.
shareWell there is no access to it. We all pay for it through taxes, and yet many people do not even have a doctor. You have to go to a walk in clinic, the emergency room, or use a telephone health service. Better than nothing I guess, but not exactly what you'd expect when people say "free healthcare." I do not have doctor right now, so better hope that nothing happens. Canadian healthcare is probably comparable to Cuba or some place like that. "Free" but hardly anyone has access to it.
shareCanada's population is less than the State of California. 90% live near the Boarder of the USA. Our hardest hit states sent covid patients to nursing homes and long term care facilities which is where the most vulnerable people to covid reside. This is why the death rates are higher among people over 65 years of age. Those states include Minnesota, New York, and Michigan. Countries that didn't quarantine actually faired the same or better than places that quarantined. So theres a lot of context to your statement.
shareFacts don't matter. Give me good feelings, that's what I want.
