The Daily Show In Name Only with Jon Stewart had been in free fall ever since Obama became President in 2009 and the show became a Democrat Party propaganda mill and quit any pretense about "mocking the politicians who are in power at the time". The show existed on fumes from 2013-2015 and slowly bled to death by hiring worthless Stewart clones like Jessica Williams to screech about how "outraged" they were by everything and how everyone else is racist/sexist/homophobic, pretending that spewing this garbage was "comedy". It collapsed completely and was outright cancelled on August 6, 2015, when Stewart left the airwaves and television viewers no longer had to sit through his dreadful "Indecision" specials garbage and "Fox News is eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeevil" rants.
The Daily Show, by contrast, was SUCCESSFULLY revived on September 28, 2015, after a 16 year hiatus of being off the airwaves. Admittedly, it's second incarnation is nowhere near as brilliant as its original, legendary, 1996-1998 run, but this is not surprising due to the fact that the newly revived Daily Show was tainted by many of Jon Stewart's sleazy writers and no-talent "correspondents" filling much of the air time with worthless material like "let's whine about income inequality for female soccer players". The show has slowly but surely been recovering from this handicap, and reached a milestone when leading Stewart crony Jessica Williams finally exited the show. It has occasional moments of hilarious wit and biting satire, but it will take YEARS to recover from the damage that its phony so-called "Daily Show" predecessor filled its air slot with from 2000-2014.
An apt comparison is looking at Russia trying to return to its glory days of the 19th century after decades of Soviet communism destroyed the country and forever tainted today's Russian Federation by the evil actions of its USSR predecessor.
