What a scary episode

It was funny but I can see a lot of what they did coming true if trump wins

reply

Hillary winning is scarier.

reply

ok, dream on.

It stuns me that people can be as stupid as to believe a businessman will cause nuclear war while Clinton -- a woman who has engaged in actual bombing campaigns and helped to maintain the military status quo -- is some kind of dove of peace.

You're such fücking idiots.

reply

She is much more of a hawk then I'd prefer, but there is still no comparison. She knows what she is talking about and understands the complexities of the world stage. On the other hand, I have to take Trump on his word that he does not believe his intelligence briefings, thinks he knows more than generals, thinks other countries should have nukes, and if you have nukes why not use them. The man very rarely has the attention span to form a complete sentence, so I wouldn't trust him with foreign policy (I have a whole list of other reasons not to trust him with domestic policy too).

Also, you mention his being a businessman (no I'm not going to go into his failures and crimes there), but in relation to war...It was for the profit of Halliburton that a VP guided us into war not to long ago.

reply

Trump would be a protectionist. I doubt he'd have any interest in what the rest of the world is doing. Everything he says supports this (including the nuclear comments) and frankly, I think the world would welcome an American president who withdraws from the world stage and is almost exclusively focused on America and its economy.

You might not like it but the notion that he is the one that wants to be a world statesman, a global influence, an international force doesn't add up at all. That's Clinton! His comments don't suggest to me that he wants international conflict, they suggest that he wants America to simply withdraw from the world.

I'm not seeing the Armageddon angle here. It's the worst kind of fear mongering.

She's the one with the record of engaging in global conflict, she's the one that has experience of it, she's also the one FAR MORE likely to butt heads with Putin.

reply

I think you're making a big leap in assumption there, but even if he didn't want to engage in foreign policy he would have to and he couldn't just bully people. And you're okay with withdrawing from the world stage and letting Putin annex wherever he likes? We have to fulfill our commitments, not just for the sake of foreign policy, but because it will effect economics too. That's why most of the world besides other authoritarians hate the idea of Trump.

reply

None of that is the issue though; this episode perpetuated the idea that a Trump presidency leads to nuclear Armageddon.

That accusation is ludicrous.

Fear mongering of the worst kind.

Also: Putin is already doing whatever he likes.

reply

Based on what Trump himself has said people don't find it ludicrous. It wasn't just about the nukes though, it was about him being an authoritarian who doesn't believe in democratic principles such as a free press and freedom of religion...again they are basing the sketch on things Trump has said.

The problem with comedy in the age of Trump (as I've said repeatedly) is he can't be parodied. Satire is nearly impossible when dealing with this election cycle, so they had to take it to an extreme extreme.

reply

How many times have Democrat voters accused the Republican candidate of being a dangerous, war mongering psycho who will bring Armageddon?

Quite often.

The charge is always a ludicrous over simplification (even with Bush given the events of 9/11).

Truth is... this is the first Republican nominee I can think of who isn't a Jesus freak, has been divorced twice, is socially quite liberal and who doesn't fetishise social conservatism.

He's actually the most liberal Republican ever picked. What seems to scare people is that he is his own man and won't just tow the party line.

As scary as that might be for many it does not equate to... the dead zone.

reply

Now, you've stretched it beyond the sketch on the show for this board. I don't want to get into everything, because this isn't the venue for that...did the sketch mention climate change? But, your statement that he is socially liberal is not current to this campaign, he has disavowed all his past beliefs.

Truthfully election related I've been really upset today having had breakfast with an Auschwitz survivor who said - It's the 1930's all over again. I'm kind of broken now and done with this.

"Truthfully election related I've been really upset today having had breakfast with an Auschwitz survivor who said - It's the 1930's all over again. I'm kind of broken now and done with this."

I know the feeling, I hate it when people talk while I'm trying to enjoy a meal.

reply

You've literally just made the Nazi comparison.

Sigh.

reply

Not to get bogged in the details, but technically it was the Auschwitz survivor who did.

reply

You're wasting your breath by talking to an idiot. The moron literally said:

I think you're making a big leap in assumption there
After you gave Clinton's abysmal track record on war. Meanwhile this dunce is making the biggest assumption by taking what Trump says literally in sound bytes in attack ads. That's the big ass assumption.

These pussies are just mad because they got fuqqed by a dick. But dicks also fuq ass holes and if they didn't fuq ass holes, you'd get your dick and your pssy all covered in shyt!

I'm going to be nervous all week until we know the results...
