I just finished reading the new book about the show, "The Daily Show (The Book)", and quite honestly I came away with the impression that most of the writers were not really behind what made The Daily Show With Jon Stewart as good as it was. They just benefited from how good Jon and the correspondents made the show. The writers that were really worth anything on the show were, with maybe a couple of exceptions, Jon Stewart, his head writer, and all of the correspondents who seemed to be largely left on their own to create. So with that in mind it's no surprise to me that the writing staff has ended up looking significantly less talented once they were away from Jon and company.
