Isn't The Daily Show Just as Bad as Russia?

Weren't they pushing fake news to the masses to try to influence the election? I mean isnt that what we are accusing Russia of? So how is it ok for the Daily Show to promote fake news to try to influence the election...

Someone truly does not understand the concept of "satire" and cannot distinguish it from a disinformation campaign from a foreign government. I guess I don't need to ask how you voted.

reply

Wait? This is supposed to be satire? I thought satire would have a little more wit to it. I guess when someone reports on a subject and gives op-ed style commentary with no jokes...I kind of took it as simply fake news. Please explain to me the "satire" that only a genius like yourself could get from Trevor Noah's reporting of the completely lacking of factual information story on Trump being blackmailed by Russia for a golden shower video. Now I want to ask you...if a reporter had done the same type of story on Podesta's Spirit Cooking email or Comet Pizza's creepy facebook with pictures of kids strapped to tables...would you have labeled this satire. Ill be awaiting you explaining the satire that Trevor Noah applied to that story. Feel free to google the word satire to find its definition in coming up with your genius answer.

And you would be wrong. You missed the satire or the satire missed you.

Demonstrating further that you can't separate facts from falsity from fake news.

The "fact" is that the FBI/CIA have briefed POTUS and PEOTUS with some information, maybe pulled from the dossier Buzzfeed printed, or maybe not and augmented by further information (the 2-page analysis) that has not made public. Therefore your dismissal of it, sight unseen and unreported on, makes little sense unless you are someone who habitually screams "fake news! fake news!" at things you don't like. Fact is, intelligence agencies don't bring to POTUS's attention things they don't have high confidence in. Similarly, we know have American intelligence agencies warning their foreign counterparts not to share information with the incoming administration because he is not to be trusted.

A reporter wouldn't have reported or questioned on Pizzagate at all because it was so transparently bullsh!t that only morons would have taken it seriously. And it certainly wouldn't have risen to the level of something that warranted POTUS's attention.

I'm sorry these distinctions are all so confusing to you.

Haha what? They dont brief the President of things unless they know its true? Uhh..what? Who wrote the dossier? What are his sources? Cant tell me...k. Go to their website where Comet Pizza openly brags about having unsupervised minors running around and has pictures of kids taped to a table next to pictures of naked men and come back and tell me thats normal. There is plenty of more evidence to suggest Pizzagate is real than anything other than there being a dossier out there with absolutely no facts or sources.

And I am not denying that Obama appointed people in intelligence agencies who are incompetent traitors. We can agree on that.

Ex-MI6 intellignce officer Christopher Steele wrote the dossier. His reputation within the intelligence community is what gives his analysis weight within the CIA and FBI. No, I can't tell you his sources because I can't tell you the sources of anyone in the intelligence community--that's kind of how that works. Your not being privy to every source used by intelligence analysts does not debunk their work.

Now you've just raised the flag to let everyone know that you're an unhinged, unrepentantly moronic loon.

And I am not denying that Obama appointed people in intelligence agencies who are incompetent traitors. We can agree on that.

You'll have to explain to me how Obama appointed MI-6 personnel. Given your proclivity for Pizzagate, I'm sure this will be interesting.

Wait? He was acting as a British spy when he made this dossier? Damn...I thought he was paid hundreds of thousands of dollars by people looking for shoddy info to trash trump...jesus. Libs are dumb as hell.

You also have to re-read your own writings. You said our intelligence agencies were telling others not to share info with us. That is treason, the heads are appointed by the president so we can all agree there.

As for Comet Pizza you clearly did no investigation. Go post this image on your social media and get back to me. http://pedocrats.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Taped-kid-at-Comet-Pizza.png Make sure its next to pictures of naked men in masks too.

The "dumb as hell" people are those who strangely believe one's experience and standing in the intelligence community magically disappear once they are an "ex" agent. (Which, if you could read you would see I explicitly stated.)

Wow, you're dense. Sorry to say, that the intelligence warnings are coming from all levels of spies and analysts from the US, not just the appointed heads. Up and down, our intelligence professionals know that Trump is a danger to the US. This is nothing to do with who is appointed by Obama but by people who know their job and know the other international professionals. You cry "treason" all you want---they're doing their job where the dumbass American population failed when they fell for an obviously compromised conman. Demonstrably, you're not very bright and have difficult sorting out what is what, so I feel pretty safe including you into that category.

"Pedocrats.com?" You are dumb as fvck. Understandable why you can't sort out the fake news from the satire. Beyond that, I didn't have to do any investigation. The police did that already and concluded the country was overrun with morons like you who believe a bunch of fake crap.

So ex agents should just be taken at their word for sure. Especially when they are paid by groups with agendas right? Guess Bill and Hillary CLinton are coke traffickers then. http://www.infowars.com/september-surprise-ex-cia-operative-outs-bill-hillary-clinton-as-cocaine-traffickers/ I mean ex agents are gospel right?

Listen to your fake news. YOu think our intelligence professionals are telling outsiders to not work with the new regime...jesus. Then you attack others of believing fake news. You say a fake dossier by a guy paid hundreds of thousands of dollars is fact, but yet other Intelligence officers reports shouldnt be reported right? Let me guess...Secret service agents with first hand knowledge should not be taken at their word but a former MI6 agent who is currently in hiding with his hundreds of thousands he took should be...k http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2016/06/28/ex-secret_service_agent_people_need_to_know_the_real_hillary_clinton_and_how_dangerous_she_is.html

Detail the actual investigation done by the police into Comet Pizza. Wasnt the owner named prior to this as one of the most powerful people in Washington DC? I mean sounds like someone who could easily cover this up. Why did Barack Obama spend 75k of tax payers money on hotdogs and pizza for 30 people. I mean this is actually in emails sent by democrats.

Let's see....every intelligence gathering community across the planet is taking the information found by Mr. Steele seriously (in addition to the classified briefing given to POTUS and not publicized) regardless of why it was uncovered. And it certainly doesn't even require a dossier or additional briefing to conclude that Trump is a compromised man to Putin. He practically shouts it every day.

Oh, but Infowars. Thank you for outing your lunacy. Are you going to argue next that Sandy Hook was a hoax? That 9/11 was an inside job? That's about the credibility of Infowars.

Listen to your fake news. YOu think our intelligence professionals are telling outsiders to not work with the new regime...jesus.

Sorry to burst your bubble:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/01/13/us-spies-warned-israel-not-share-intelligence-trump/

http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slatest/2017/01/13/report_u_s_intel_officials_told_israel_to_be_careful_about_sharing_information.html

The former acting director of the CIA has publicly called Trump an "unwitting agent" of Putin. Another former CIA chief has called Trump Putin's "useful fool." (A Bush guy, whaddya know?)

Despite your desire to conflate the two, Secret Service agents aren't privy to the intelligence that is briefed to POTUS. And Gary Byrne has been hawking that same book since the 90s. Glad he's made a career of it. I do recall that one of the White House press secretaries, DeeDee Myers had an alcohol and/or drug problem, but has apparently been out of recovery for a few decades, so not sure how I am supposed to be persuaded by this. I'm awfully sorry that Hillary said mean things or hurt his feelings, though. It sure is taking him quite awhile to get over this, don't you think?

But I know, I know, it can be painful to realize that as a voter you've been absolutely taken and as a human being, you're a fvcking Pizzagate retard. Hopefully in time you'll come around to it.

In the meantime, keep trying with the satire. Maybe you'll figure it out.

And you are so confused...like an insane person. YOu dont even know what you are arguing anymore. You keep saying fake news and such and then saying this is real and then saying satire...you have no clue what youre even arguing anymore. You are just an uneducated liberal who needs to get off the internet and get a job.

bit rich you accusing the original poster of missing satire. he totally set this up for you to fall for his 'wait, this is satire line', and you totally did.

Better than the exceedingly unfunny current version of the daily show.

No, I didn't.

Someone claiming that satire isn't funny isn't exactly satire. Or funny.

reply

Yes you did.

that's cos the joke was in the punch line, which you seem to have conveniently missed

Wait? This is supposed to be satire?

get it, he reeled you in with the first bit then set you up for the punch line which reveals that the rest of it was deception and what he really wanted to say was, the daily show isn't funny any more. And he'd be right. it's become just another political show with an agenda sadly. no perspective, no insight, no wit. And I say this as a long time fan of the show. It's over.

Oh dear god, I understood your deconstruction.

And what you missed with his initial premise---an approach would couldn't possibly be attributed to satire--that he couldn't separate very distinct issues. A "punch line" is non-existent if it is predicated on a failed premise.

Whether the Daily Show is funny anymore is entirely subjective. I don't happen to find it very funny, either. That doesn't change it from being satire or conflated with anything else.

I think the OP set up did highlight the diminished satirical content of TDS.
It jumps the line between satirising current events into pure partisanship more often than not now, which is part of what makes it unfunny. Who likes to be preached to and manipulated, even if it is in a less wrong (right?) direction.
I OP fits my definition of satire, and was funnier than any recent episode of TDS
