shareI'm a 34 year old guy and really like the show. My wife made fun of me for watching it, making soap opera comparisons, and then she sat down with me and watched an episode in Series 3 and she was hooked! We're now about to start Series 6. I'm waiting to take her back and show her Series 1-3. ;-)
(and by the way...we don't have tv/cable/etc...I never watch tv, but I really enjoy this show --- of course I've enjoyed my two trips to Ireland and play traditional Irish music here in the US...so, perhaps, I'm a bit biased)
My husband enjoys the series as much as I. Recently he said "We haven't watched BallyK in a while" so we started and are now half-way through Series 2. He's only seen bits & pieces of Series 4-6, when I was watching it on BBC America. He asked if we could get them on DVD. He looked up Avoca, the real life setting of BallyK, on a webcam and we've looked at photos of different locations. I think anyone who enjoys great writing, stories, and performances will enjoy BallyK.
shareIts a show for everyone but the best shows are from series 1-3.
shareMy husband is actually the one who introduced me to the show. He found it on Netflix and was watching it by himself and really enjoying it (and already most of the way through Series 2) when I said, "Hey, I want to watch it, too!" So we hooked the laptop up to the TV and watched it together from the beginning. Every night, we'd get home from work and say, "Wanna watch some more Ballykissangels tonight?" And, of course, the answer was always yes!
So, yes, I think it's a show that both men and women would enjoy, especially if you're into that cozy, village feel. (He and I both enjoyed watching All Creatures Great and Small, and to us, Ballykissangel has a similar feel to it. It's probably because both shows are set in small, countryside villages in the British Isles. )
