What's your comment on later-season Niamh? (SPOILERS)

She cheats on her husband (well, maybe not a physical one, but clearly an emotional one), is all ready to divorce him when he dies, and then at the end of the season she ends up marrying her lover!
WHAT THE HECK? It appeared everyone was 'oh, poor Niamh', with the handful that knew the truth being supportive instead of ostracizing the cheating shrew from the town. Only Father Lonigan mentioned anything about the wrongness of their actions, but he with everyone else celebrated the wedding even moreso than Ambrose's wedding. Geez, Ambrose was right: they all cared more for Niamh than him.
Yeah, I know Peter Hanly was leaving, but I would have preferred it if Niamh was the one who got killed, with Ambrose leaving BallyK with Kieran.
True, I might be a little unfair about it, since I mourned Ambrose's death when I first read the spoilers, but it seemed so unfair that Niamh got away scot free.

I got the impression Niamh & Ambrose didn't like each other very much. I thought she married him to spite her father Brian. I thought he looked down on her because of who Brian was and what he stood for. She bossed him around while bitching &moaning the whole time about her life. He wanted her home,barefoot & pregnant. There was also no chemistry between the actors.

Enter Sean Dillon. I felt bad about Ambrose but got over it. Niamh & Sean had chemistry from the start and I rooted for them to get together.

Just for the record, I'm not a Dude, I'm a Dudette!

Niamh was not a sympathetic character and I found her treatment of Ambrose shrewish, sometimes near to the point of cruelty. As far as Ambrose wanting her pregnant, barefoot, and in the kitchen, Niamh was just as eager if not more to get pregnant and judging from Ambrose's and Brian's reactions to her attempts at cooking, Ambrose might well have been happier if she'd stayed out of the kitchen.

She seemed to be generally unhappy and frustrated with her life and really wasn't sure what she wanted. Too bad she realized too late that it wasn't a life with Ambrose.

After she got a decent haircut and treated herself to an entire day of shopping, she seemed to be more confident and self-possessed. Also, working as a publican increased her self-image. She found that her life with Ambrose was too dull and and Sean made it more exciting.

I agree with you. She should have been the one to die. The character was a bitch, she was bossy and lied and cheated- emotional is worse than physical.Ambrose assumed primary care of the baby to the point his job suffered for it while all she wanted to do was avoid parenting the child she wanted more than him.
After Ambrose died the series took a bigger nose dive than it had after season 3. The new characters, especially the Dooley family- were horrible. No child would be allowed to do what those two did and get away with it.

Heartless baggage!

I've never liked this actress. It has something to do with her voice and the way she shouts all the time, regardless of the emotions in the scene. She always comes off as shouting and angry in every emotional moment. It's off-putting.
