I'm curious about two character names: Siobhan and Padraig. To my ears they sound like they are pronounced "Chiffon" and "Porrick" respectively. Now I can sort of see the phonetic connection between Siobhan and "Chiffon", but how in hell are you supposed to correctly divine "Porrick" out of Padraig?
shareThese names are Gallic and there are letters in the Gallic alphabet that are not in the English alphabet, so letters in the English alphabet are substituted for those letters in the Gallic alphabet. That's why the pronunciations do not exactly match the spellings. I also think that Shevon is closer to Siobhan than Chiffon.

shareIn later episodes, there's a child character named.... Grainne.....pronounced "gran-ya." Those Irish Gaelic names are something else. Not in this series, but IRL, is the name Ceildh (spelled something like that), which I believe is pronounced "Kelly"! Oh, there's the name of Siobhan's baby daughter in the series, spelled Aisling and pronounced "Ash-leen."
