Show got bad as it went on

I really loved this show when everyone was younger during the first few seasons. Then as everyone got older, the storylines got too complicated. They wasted so much time with Ruthie having a crush and Martin and then having nothing happen with that. Mary's storyline went all over the place. Simon's was the worst in that they wasted so much time on him being engaged to Rose only for that not to happen. Then there was the whole pregnancy storyline between him and Sandy which wasn't resolved at all. It seemed like the only ones with complete stories were Matt and Lucy.

I agree, the show should've got cancelled at season 6 when Matt got married. Since then, the show went downhill fast.

At times it was entertaining, other times full as disaster IMO.

Rose was a crap character for the show.

When Eric and Annie had the twins I knew it was past due time for the show.

This 2005 episode: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0503697/

A Valentines Day program done as a musical. Talk about "jumping the shark," this one jumped every species of marine life in the sea.

The show was cheesy but entertaining and heartwarming for the first 6 seasons, and focused on just the family, so that would have been the best time to end it. Then Season 7 and 8 seem to focus to much on the new young preacher and all people outside the central family. Season 9 is a little more of a return to form with Matt and Simon back in the main cast. Season 10 focused way too much on Simon’s failed engagement with Rose, who was terrible. Then Season 11 seems to be all about the dad’s heart troubles and the homeless kids who move in with the family. It was better when the original family and no one else was the focus.
