Good idea, bad script

I watched this for the first time today- I never got to see it in the '90's when it was released. I kind of liked it but found myself getting bored and frustrated with the weak script and the lame story.
I think the casting was good but it should have had a heavier tone and more gritty therefore Travolta and Belafonte could have been replaced with maybe De Niro and Denzel Washington. Travolta's good in this role but he's required to work with a dull script that didn't use the gimmick of a parralell world to it's full promise
And he kidnaps Belafonte only to take him on a day out and not be sure what to do with him and the situation.
I got bored and it's a pity because it had a lot of promise.

Sweetie, maybe you should write, produce and direct something better. Look at what's going on in the world right now......maybe it's about that time...... once again!

Just promise me that you'll use the song "What's Going On" by Marvin Gaye in the movie? :)

Bless you

True I'd agree with that. I thought the two leads were decent, but if the film had a bigger budget and better advertising it may have been more successful and praised more. Although I liked the film, I thought it was decent.
