Nighthawks

I saw this movie when it first came out and thought it was pretty good. I recently saw Nighthawks which I had not seen in years and I saw many similarities between the two. But no mention anywhere why. Maybe I am going crazy because I can't find any references anywhere on the net.

What was Nighthawks about? I never even heard of it.

That's because it's a pretty old movie(1981). It's about these two NYC cops(Sly Stallone & Billy Dee Williams) who I believe are part of an anti-terrorism task force, who are on the trail of an international terrorist known as Wulfgar(Rutger Hauer) who has had plastic surgery to alter his identity. The cops know that he is in NYC to pull off a terrorist attack and they are trying to catch him before he can do that. The one kink in the armor is that they have no idea what he now looks like. Lindsay Wagner (Bionic Woman/Sleep Number bed commercial) has a supporting role as Stallone's ex-wife. Overall, it's a pretty good movie. For the most part, I'm not a Stallone fan but Rutger Hauer is very good in his role.

Here is the original trailer for it from 1981:

I think it's just the themes really in general.

You would somehow compare Stallone to Washington? No similarity whatsoever.

reply

Yeah thats right Stallone is miles ahead than Washington in Acting,Directing, Producing and anthing else he puts his hand to.

reply

uh-huh...right if stallone is better than washington, then im on my way to being king of the world.

Stallone has multiple succesful series. Rambo? Rocky? He's 60 years old now and still doing another Rocky and Rambo movie, and I am sure they will rock. What has Washington done, except act in a few movies?

reply

That's just plain ignorant - Denzel's won 2 oscars FFS, and how many does the esteemed Sly have exactly ? Denzel also clearly has far greater range than Stallone in terms of the variety of his roles, and has also acted on stage and directed - go see his IMDB entry !

Oh my god...what kind of Moron would paste a whole IMDB entry onto the IMDB message board?

And come on, I don't dislike Stallone, but you are seriously claiming he is better than Denzel?

Stallone has had his triumphs, and a fair amount of box office success. His earlier movies like FIST and Paradise Alley were very good, the Rocky movies were good, though tailed off somewhat. But he has for the most part remained firmly in the action/adventure genre, a genre which he is patently now too old for.

And the thing is, Stallone always had the potential to be a good actor - far ans away the best acting performance he ever have was in Copland. But what does he follow it up with? An Alan Smithee File? Driven? Detox? Get Carter?

Denzel has had his failures too, but he has mostly stuck to dramatic and more interesting roles.
