The UFC

What I found interesting about this movie is the fact that back in 1995, Ultimate fighting was basically still underground. Here it was portrayed within the confines of a cage, a mainstream spectators' sport. Fast forward to 11 years later, and now we see how ultimate fighting is fact catching up to boxing in popularity and in the style portrayed in the movie. It has all the showy possibility of wrestling mixed with the seriousness of boxing. And to think, when I went to see this film in theatres, I thought such a sport would be unheard as a popular sports event.

I didn't really watch UFC back then but did start to kinda watch all a little here and there a couple years later. Since I found out that Spike TV carries it I've gotten more into it. I'm mostly just a casual fan, I just watch whenever I actually remember it's on and I'm not doing something else at the time.

Having watched Virtuosity last night for the first time in nearly a decade I didn't really care too much for how they portrayed the UFC, it was basically WWE type wrestling crap, I think UFC has always been above that.

But yeah it is good to see how popular the sport has become.

Yeah, UFC has always been what it's been, which is why it was previously underground. The movie's director Brett Leonard was a fan of the league, along with pride fighting complete, in fact he's been known to put some uncredited/roled fighters into his movies. It's a shame he hasn't made anything blockbuster for a while. :(

Speaking of the UFC fight scene, I used to have the definitive website for Virtuosity (www.hidden-mask.com). For my site I did research on anything that I could think of that related to the movie.

Getting to the point, I called the Olympic Auditorium where UFC took place in the movie. I had a list of questions for them. I forget what they are now, but it hardly mattered since their representative said that they have never held a Ultimate Fighting Championship fight there, or anything similiar to it, nor have they had any movies filmed there. :P

strange..the studios that made Virtuosity, Money Talks, and Escape from L.A. must had some great set designs.
As for UFC I guess the producers wanted to utilize it, since it it was a violent uderground blood sport back in the day. now its a legit sport such as boxing. it was more fun back in the day with minimum rules. like being able to use low blows

If you watch regularly and get the dvds like I do you know that Gonzaga kicking Cro-Cop's head off is better than anything that came before it. Or Anderson Silva delivering knee after knee to Franklin's nose. Low blows were pretty funny though.

Just gotta say I loved your site. There weren't many sites dedicated to Virtuosity and now there's practically none and yours was great.

Let slip the Determined Kitten of Doom!
