Why did that one programmer want Sid in the real world in the first place?

They were going to close down his program because the white cop in the beginning died in the program. Plus, Sid was starting to learn things, which shouldn't happen for a program.

It was Sid's idea. His program had evolved to the point where his creator was actually submissive to his suggestions. Sid convinced him to show the world what he had created no matter what the cost.
