Fenster- Spoilers

So are we to assume that Keyser probably just killed Fenster and made it seem like Fenster took off first? I've always been a little puzzled why Fenster thinks he can run from Keyser since he already knows who Keyser is. So my interpretation was more that Keyser wasn't certain if the guys were going to do his bidding, so he kidnapped Fenster and killed him and made it seem like Fenster tried to run away and then wound up dead (via Keyser).

Who knows why Fenster was murdered. But maybe he thought those stories about Keyser Soze were exaggerated and that he could get away from him.

shortlist website says that his character "was only there (in the movie) to die and set an example to the others".

However, seems to me that his death also served as a motivating factor, for at least some of the others.

He also provided a lot of comedy and was in my opinion probably the funniest character.

I thought so too.
My thinking is that he kills Fenster to motivate McManus and show they (the Soze organization) mean business.
Afterwards Verbal/Soze lets the guys know where they can find Fenster and he tells Cujan that Fenster left a note.
Here's the reason why I don't think that actually happened: does Fenster strike you as the kind of person who'd leave a note?!?!?!
