What was the significance of the Florida Keys?
They were mentioned a few times throughout the films.

shareJames (Willis) never saw the ocean since he lived underground in the year 2035 and so, as a couple, they made the ocean their destination. They decided to go to an iconic resort in southern Florida naturally because it was November/December in Philadelphia/Baltimore and thus Atlantic City or Rehoboth Beach weren't going to cut it.
sharereappearing theme for James, in commercials, etc. Never got to see the ocean, so.....becomes a place of obsession, sort of,.....perfectly done.
shareAlso, this movie plays with words a bit, as in 'Mon-KEY', 'Florida KEYs', and so on. It's funny, how everything that's on TV or radio is basically relevant to the story.. 'Time Tunnel' cartoon, 'kid in barn' and 'James Cole kidnapped a shrink', 'Florida KEYs' advertisements and so on.
For once, I'd like to see these things in movies; 1) Completely story/plot-irrelevant stuff when protagonist turns on a television or radio 2) People saying 'bye' or 'good bye' before ending a phone call 3) Drizzle or very light rain instead of heavy, pouring rain..
good points, I can't believe how much I still love this movie. In my top 3 I think of all time.
