who saw this in cinemas back in 95/96?
Who saw this back in the day? What are your memories - the anticipation of seeing it in the weeks/days before, the actually seeing it and how much a big deal was it where you were back then, the crowds, audience etc and after coming out of the cinema what were your thoughts and in the days/weeks that followed..
Before it came out I remember at the time reading about it in pages of Cinefantastique and Cinescape (pretty much just before the net went online) - I specifically remember buying the Cinescape issue with the 12 Monkeys preview (actually I think I bought it due to being intrigued by the article) where it had early release photos from the movie (bald Bruce in a grimy alleyway looking at the army of 12 Monkeys logo sprayed in red on the alley wall) and it was described as a remake of La Jette (which id never heard of) but sort of being sold as Bruce's Terminator (with the whole Bruce as a Kyle Reese type/time travel plot going back to save humanity from being destroyed also the eventual terminator style 'red eye' movie poster although most of the posters I saw at the time were just the 12 Monkeys logo) meets Planet of The Apes (due to 'monkeys' and the time travel - in fact the Apes remake was in development at the time and there were constant updates about it being directed by Oliver Stone and starring Arnie, in fact I think I read about that in the same Cinescape).. basically a movie that intrigued me a great deal and was right up my street .. plus it was being directed by Terry Gilliam who I knew was Monty Python/Time Bandits/Brazil (but hadn't seen much of those) and I think I recall it saying it would be a more serious film than any hed done so far and that Bruce would be playing it more serious/no wisecracks/trademark smirk (and first time being bald), plus Pitt was coming off Seven, and Christopher Plummer was another plus.. hell even The Riddler was in the movie! (the real one)
I think I bought the novel of the movie (remember when they did them?) and might've read it even before seeing the film I was so intrigued by the premise (spoiling a movie like that would be unthinkable to me now but I was still almost a kid then and didn't care that much about spoiling stuff for myself) and after I saw the film I remember I was so jazzed about the movie and the weird score I bought the soundtrack cd
