Bugs in snowy Philadelphia

When Cole is collecting specimens in snowy Philadelphia at the beginning of the move, I couldn't help thinking that those insects (a big spider, and some kind of tropical cockroach) would not be living in an unheated temperate climate. They especially would not be out and about in snowy winter weather! The reason those critters can live in climates that get cold in the winter at all is because we humans provide heated buildings for them.

Agreed.

A link to a draft of the screenplay is on my site. The "bug" is there. But, the film is set in warm weather in the script! So, I suspect when they changed the time of year, for whatever reason (I've often thought it might be because flu weather, if that's what the disease is, is in autumn/winter) that they decided to keep the bug since that is why Cole was sent out in the first place.

Good catch, though.
