We see the lead scientist on the plane at the end with the guy who released the virus and she doesn't look young enough in that scene to have been 30 years younger... so... did she go back in time as well, after cole had discovered the real culprit? What was she there to do? Get more information about the virus?

She was there to be infected with a PURE, UNMUTATED sample of the virus so that the future scientist could hopefully discover a cure.
