He wanted Barbie to be an action hero,basically like Buffy. But Mattel at the time refused to do it. Then she appeared in Toy Story 3.

shareSomehow did not know Joss Whedon was in charge of helping write the screenplay. Frankly I am glad Barbie wasn't in this as a superhero because I like Buzz and Woody being the main characters and also like Sid's toys helping out Woody and Buzz. A superhero Barbie being with them through the whole movie would have made it less good imo. Not to mention typically Barbies are a girls toy. Not a boy's toy.
