Potato Head was the real villain...

Sid was just a stupid kid who didn’t know what he was doing. When the toys come to life, he immediately realizes his faults. Potato Head, however, turns everyone against Woody and outright refuses to believe his innocence even when proof is present. When the toys start to accept Woody towards the end, Potato Head is the only one to maintain his animosity. He’s the reason why Woody and Buzz get into so much trouble, and their many chances to get out of the situation are ruined by Potato, who’s arrogant just because.

The later movies turned him into a likable snob, but the first movie potrays him as a flat out antagonist. He’s the villain of the first movie, not Sid.

Well, I wouldn't say a villain, but he was pretty mean in this one. I think he was jealous of Woody, just like Woody was jealous of Buzz, and he seemed to feel guilty about his actions in part 2.

He just needed to get laid with Mrs. Potato Head.

He was obviously Jealous of Woody since he was the leader and Andy's favorite.....even after Buzz came along!

I see what you're getting at, BurningSun, and I think most of us thought that at best, Potato Head was a real JERK, if not the human mutilating and destroying toys (at least he didn't do that).

But we can all take a lot of satisfaction that Potato Head got his comeuppance by having Woody throw a radio-controlled car right at him, right after the toys realised that Woody had been telling the truth about Buzz all along. I've always loved those moments in this movie.

Yeah. That whole shot of Mr. Potato Head getting hit by the car and all his parts flying everywhere was so awesome!
