The other toys drove Woody to jealousy

When Buzz first arrived, Woody was the reassuring one, letting all the toys know that they wouldn't ever be replaced and despite potential new toys they would always stick together, yet the behaviour of some of them (notably Hamm and Potato Head) were almost taunting Woody.

For example when Buzz is showing off his buttons and gadgets, Hamm and Potato Head didn't just admire them, they made a point of expressing the major difference between Buzz's buttons and Woody's string. Even Bo Peep chipped in with "I've found my moving buddy", which was a heartless thing to say, and to then wonder why Woody was feeling insecure.

They were all worried that a new toy from Andy's birthday would replace them and their role within the gang and it was Woody who assured them that wouldn't happen, yet as soon as Woody is on the verge of replacement, the toys providing no support whatsoever and pretty much cast him aside.

Potato Head was such a jerk in the first one

he regretted his actions in the second one though , and in the 3rd one he's awesome!

I've always thought that was such a bitchy thing to say on Bo's part. I've gotta agree with you.

I agree.

Actually, Woody was disrespectful to Buzz since the very beginning.

Don't you remember at the beginning of the movie when Woody told Buzz to get off the bed because it's supposedly "his spot"? He might have been nice to the other toys, but he NEVER was respectful to Buzz.

So I disagree, it's not the other toys that drove him to it. He did it all by himself.

Potato Head might have been harsh to Woody, but he told the truth.

Though to be fair, Woody has developed as a character and regrets everything he did by the end of the movie. And he is a likable character in the future movies.

He's a likable character in this film as well and it was the other toys who drove him to jealousy he was cool all the way until the toy started being retarded. He was claiming his spot nothing wrong with that but he did greet buzz with open arms.

You made very good points here and that's how I feel about them in this one. They were all much more likable and better developed in the sequels.

I really like that Mr. Potato Head and to a lesser extent Hamm really disliked Woody from the beginning (and that on the other hand Bo Peep and Slinky loved him and Rex admired him).

In general the writing, animation and acting of Woody was a great mix of likeable and bad/misguided guy. He was a decent leader but certainly an entitled one, he was never going to be replaced (in the sense of thrown out or ignored), Andy still liked him but he might not be the clear and sole favorite. Andy and the toys had a right to be impressed by the new, modern-ish toy.
