The Major, Movie-Breaking Flaw...

Can anyone answer this for me? Re-watching this with my son the other day... I realized there is a major flaw that breaks the entire movie. Wondering if there is just something I missed...

The whole premise of the first film is that Buzz truly believes he is a space ranger, not a toy right?

So why is it that anytime Andy is playing with his toys, whether unboxing Buzz, flying him around the room, sleeping with him, etc... does Buzz act like a toy?

Shouldn't he be acting like himself during those times as well?

You could say when Andy's in the room, all of the toys become toys... but that doesn't make sense either. You see them act countless times throughout this film and others like themselves even when people are around.

Back when Lee Unkrich had a formspring account he simply stated that all toys have this instinct to freeze when humans come around.

Another way to look at this ... Buzz is simply adapting to his surroundings. All of the other toys stay frozen while a human is in the room so he mimics them. He probably figured it was something that toys do to show respect or something.

There are lots of ways to look it.

I figured that the other toys probably told him to freeze when Andy enters the room.
