shareIt's not really random, Disney is notorious for doing that. Have you seen the actual HUMAN movies they put on Disney Channel Original movies? There are many movies where the family is a single household with just a single dad or mom. There definitely has to be something Disney is trying to get across.

Going by just the movie, I think it was a divorce. They moved to a smaller house and she obviously has custody of the kids. Not only that, but her kid is obsessed with toys. Many single moms, who are divorced, try to distract their kids with buying them toys and giving them everything they want. Additionally, sometimes the toys reflect the missing father figure. I am not saying Andy's dad had a cow boy nature, however, it was something Andy first related to.

How come someone doesn't have a dad to begin with? You can't even be here if you don't have a dad.. You have a dad, it's just that maybe he's dead, or divorced, or send to an adoption or etc.
