...unconsciously their fate had been decided? I watched it for like the 10th time yesterday with a friend and by the end she said that all of Jimmi´s friends gave her that impression as soon as they accepted the job. And I think she´s right.

Critical Bill is plain crazy and in the bottomline he knew he wasn´t the right guy to do the role he was assigned. That was clear.
Jimmi was the only smart guy in the crew, how could that bunch of misfits do the job, and why Jimmi chose them?
Because the action was sort of a farewell to life. Maybe somewhere in their subconscious they knew they would soon be together somewhere out of this time having boat drinks.
