What if they already knew...

...unconsciously their fate had been decided? I watched it for like the 10th time yesterday with a friend and by the end she said that all of Jimmi´s friends gave her that impression as soon as they accepted the job. And I think she´s right.
Olden felt nostalgical and ashamed of his present conditions. He had enjoied life, no regrets, and like all his mates, faced death with dignity.
We don´t know much about Eazy Winds, but he found Critical Bill totally nuts, a "dookie taste" in his words, how could he have agreed to work with him?
Ok, Franchise had a family and stuff, but we could see the look on his wife´s face that something would change for worse after Jimmi´s visit.
Critical Bill is plain crazy and in the bottomline he knew he wasn´t the right guy to do the role he was assigned. That was clear.
Jimmi was the only smart guy in the crew, how could that bunch of misfits do the job, and why Jimmi chose them?

Because the action was sort of a farewell to life. Maybe somewhere in their subconscious they knew they would soon be together somewhere out of this time having boat drinks.

I don't think they did. I think Franchise's wife knew that Jimmy couldn't be there for any other reason except to lure Franchise back into crime. He had done a stint in prison already. I think that more than anything is the reason she wasn't too happy to see him.

I don't think that Jimmy was the only smart one but that they each had their individual talents. Jimmy was just the cool-headed leader. Jimmy was the only character that the audience is meant to care about.

Did you also notice at the end when they're having boat drinks that Franchise's tattoos are all gone and Olden/Pieces has all of his fingers again? I took that to mean that they were in their own special heaven...having boat drinks.

For the record, Eazy Wind called Critical Bill a "dookie chaser".

Oh I knew what it was in reference to! How could anyone not know? It certainly sounds like he said, "Dookie Chaser". I will watch my DVD with the subtitles. Thanks!
