When you watch the movie, you see that Christopher Walken's character is sadistic and rather bigoted, and Jimmy and the guys never deserved what was imposed upon them. But am I the only person who feels some level of empathy for The Man? I mean he is a dying paraplegic, his wife is dead, and his only child is severely mentally disturbed. I can understand why he'd be so bitter, sad and unforgiving about things.
I agree, if you watch the movie you see clips of him dancing in the garden with his son's gf, while Bernard watches on. He looks happy and what not, but you got to realize that he is a gangster and gangsters are rarely forgiving. Jimmy's crew was screwed from the word go, what I NEVER understood is why he would bring in some of the people he did. I think he knew it was a suicide mission to some extent and knew what would happen if the job was messed up, but he still brought someone like Franchise into it, who was very much so out of doing bad things, had several kids, and a good thing(his words) going with the trailer park he was at. For some reason that ALWAYS bothered me. The other guys, like Easy, Pieces, and Bill were all past their prime and dead already, no one told them though.
Thats who I was talking about, were who Jimmy picked. The MWTP didn't pick anyone. Why did Jimmy pick some of those guys? Fran I just never understood.
I get that too. Even though Jimmy was a decent guy at heart, a lot of the decisions he made were totally idiotic, especially the involvement of Franchise. The Man should have called mr.shhh off of franchise as jimmy requested, but it all goes back to how i can understand why theres no compassion left in the MWTP, because he's a dying and bitter guy with no will for life. Bill was right to an extent about it being Jimmy's fault.
Buddy, he is a gangster and a criminal and as he said in the movie "my word don't mean dick". Are you expecting a person who's lifestyle depends on murder, extortion, etc, to have compassion? Not in the real world, sorry.
It wasn't a "suicide mission." And I think Jimmy chose the crew members out of past loyalties. The choice of Franchise wasn't a poor one. Franchise was competent and capable. The REALLY BAD CHOICE was to bring in Critical Bill.
"Oh Benson, dear Benson, you are so mercifully free of the ravages of intelligence."
And Bill was never supposed to do any talking, but he PLEADS with Jimmy to let him be a cop for "the action" because he says he's changed and he wants to prove himself.
Yes, I had always thought that he chose the guys that he did because they had a past together. Franchise was a guy who had a lot to lose. He seemed to have gotten his life together with a relationship and a 'home' and all since Jimmy last saw him, but Jimmy was unable to see, I think, that Critical had gone over the top since they last worked together. Just because they pulled off a few successful stunts in the past doesn't mean that a coupla years in the joint isn't going to take its toll on an already screwed-up personality like Bill's.
Yeah, it really wasn't a bad crew to begin with. Jimmy just should of stood his ground and not let Bill be one of the cops and it would have probably gone OK.
