Jimmy 'The Saint' Tosnia's name...

Anybody got any thoughts on why Jimmy was called "The Saint"??

reply

At least half of it is explained in the first two minutes; he went to seminary, but didn't finish.

Couple that with his overly clean-cut exterior image, and the over-done "saint" nickname is a natural.

reply

I always got the impression it was because he started seminary school but "lost the calling" as the narrator of the film says.

Jimmy the Saint comes from a Bruce Springsteen song, "Lost in the Flood."

"She's, like, a biscuit older than me..."

reply

I didn't know that. Great bit of trivia there. Anyway, thanks & I love this film.......fp :)

I am watching the movie in about one hour's time...well said mate...Lost in the Flood by Bruce Springsteen from the album Greetings from Ashbury Park (1973). However, I don't think the song's character has anything to do with the movie's. Guess I'll just have to wait and see...

No, it doesn't have anything to do with the character in the song, per se, but I think the screenwriter was influenced by Springsteen's characters, especially their names.

"She's, like, a biscuit older than me..."

That pure American brother, dull-eyed and empty-faced
Races Sundays in Jersey, in a Chevy stock super eight
He rides her low in the hip, on the side he's got "Bound for Glory"
in red white and blue flash paint
He leans on the hood telling racing stories, the kids call him Jimmy the Saint

Yeah really doesn't have much to do with the movie but is the best Bruce song of all time in my opinion.

I agree. That one and "Incident on 57th Street."
