but...

When one of the demons cut Brayker, and when the kid killed him.. surely they'd have been touched by his blood, if they're a 'lower form of demon' why didn't this kill them? Also, was anyone else thinking they should have just thrown the blood over the collector to start with? (surely after all this time that's past, they'd know it's effects?)

Regardless... great film, just rewatched it and haven't seen since i was a kid.

I think the blood may only be good when the key is passed... though I'm not sure

And with that in mind, I do believe since the blood would be in limited supply anyway, trying to douse the collector by using all the blood in 1 fell swoop would have been too much of a risk

That was my impression. I think the key carrier had to die (like making the Christ-like sacrifice) in order for his blood to be considered "holy".

The movie strongly hinted that it wasn't the keyholder's blood in particular that had any special property. When he's asked if the key contains the blood of Christ, Brayker responds 'some of it'. From his dialogue, it's implied that as long as the key is refilled it will still contain a (more and more diluted, but evidently potent enough) portion of holy blood. It's also stated that Bad Things will happen if all the blood is used up (therefore leaving no more of Christ's blood diluted in the key and rendering them defenseless).

Of course, you could always mix in some Catholic transubstantiation symbolism, but I don't think this movie was too concerned with subtlety (not that that's a bad thing).

But the blood is all used near the end of the movie. Zane's character washes most of it down the drain in the bath, and what was left was later spat in his face to kill him. The key was empty of all the holy blood. That was how he (Zane) could then touch it to put it in his suitcase. Re-watch the film and you'll see this.

So I have to agree with what Plissken said:

I think that with their death/sacrifice the key holders blood became Christ-like, and then was just as good to use as Jesus's blood had been. Though, during Brayker's time as Key holder there still could have been a little bit of Christ's blood in the key; but there would not be any now since it had all been dumped.

You do realize that blood is a very thick substance right? If you pour out a container of blood and do not wash, rinse, then disinfect it, some remains. Ask any person that contracted HIV or any other illness from sharing needles.

Although I do agree with you, this is where I have to pull out the "this is a movie and not reality" card.

In the film the key had to be empty for the demon (Zane) to touch it. Earlyer in the move we see him asking Willy to dump it out before giving it to him. We learn why later, when Bryker presses the key to the demon's face and it burns/hurts him. Yet, near the end (after the key has been dumped) he can pick it up and place it in his suitcase. If it's the blood in the key that hurt him (as it obviously is) then it would be safe to say that all blood is gone from the key when he touches it, or else it would have hurt him like before.
